Beware Of Highly-Trained Armed Parasites In A SHTF Situation
(Editor’s note: Part 2 located here)
Some people say, “Oh, I just want to have guns.” And frankly, I think that’s pretty stupid. If marauding bands come, I’ll show them how much great food I have. I’ll invite them to some sort of feast, and charm them. And then, if I decide that they can be useful, and cooperative, great. Otherwise, I’ll poison them, or cut their throats in their sleep or something.
-Prepper community member in episode 2 of National Geographic Channel’s new Doomsday Preppers TV show
In Wednesday’s post about the new Doomsday Preppers TV series on the National Geographic Channel, I mentioned the following as it concerned firearms:
Firearms- Which brings me to my next thought, which is about guns. One prepper said in episode 2:
It’s easy to feel a little left out of the prepper community if you live in New England and if you’re not fairly right-wing and conservative politically. But I just don’t spend my time worrying about storing guns and ammunition. Because our security comes not from stockpiling weapons but from having a community that respects each other, supports each other, and we have each other’s backs.
While the right of the law-abiding individual to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the Bill of Rights under the Second Amendment, I understand that owning a gun may not be right for everyone. However, keep in mind that in a SHTF situation, there are individuals/groups this prepper and her community could very well come into contact with who have come out and said (future post) they don’t bother stockpiling food, water, and other supplies because they intend to take these items away from others under threat of force (guns). Firearms are without a doubt one of the most effective tools for self-defense, and with the proper training and tactics, our prepper and her beloved community might actually have a chance of keeping their preps safe against these roving bands of human parasites.

This morning, I want to talk about these armed parasites. Some time ago I picked up the book Urban Survival Guide by David Morris. On page 86 of the text, which is really a comprehensive twelve-week urban survival course, Morris wrote:
… many people’s survival plan consists of buying just enough ammo to take whatever food they need by force. Just two weeks before writing this, I stood in a circle with eight active duty military talking about how quickly things were crumbling. When the conversation moved to preparations, I found myself listening to them mock families who stockpile food and detail their plans on how to “liberate” it if they ever need to.
Some of the comments were, “If they’re dumb enough to buy food instead of guns, they don’t deserve to live.” and “When it comes down to it, my family is more important than their family and I’ll take what I need.” and “I don’t have room to store a year of food, but I do have room for another case of .223.”
I’m guessing that some of the guys in that circle were like me and just played along so as to not put a target on our backs, but there were enough active participants in the conversation for it to be unsettling. I love our military, and this plan is not pervasive among military personnel, but it is all too common among the general public. Unfortunately, I overhear this exact line of reasoning at least 1-2 times a month as I’m in stores, restaurants, and at gun ranges.
I was reminded by what Morris (aka SurvivalDave) wrote recently when I came across a related comment on Fernando Aguirre’s Surviving In Argentina blog back on January 9. “Anonymous” posted on “Squatters in Texas Town Use Arcane Law to Claim Vacant Homes”:
Matter of fact, there are many, many people who have military training and weapons who are planning right now to fore go further preparations and seek out places just like that and use their weapons to take whatever they need to supply themselves and their family. I’ve talked with them, they are capable and what they have told me is chilling.
“Chilling.”
Highly-trained armed parasites do exist and they will spring into action in a major societal disruption or collapse. “Charm them” if you’d like, but be prepared to lose your property, your dignity, and quite possibly your life if that’s all you intend to bring into play.

Let’s list all the flaws in the ‘Parasite Plan’:
First of all: It is vastly easier to keep something than to take it away.
Are these parasites going to go from house to house searching for who has food? Each time running the risk of dying the process? How long do think they’ll last doing that?
They think they’re badasses – wait to they run into a posse of badasses who don’t take too kindly to murder and theft – sometimes it’s not a good idea to end up being an example to others.
Some preppers grow their own – so much for your grand plan killing off those that would grow you food…… Or are you keep them alive and steal from them every harvest? Yeah, I think that would work… maybe…. let me guess……ONCE!
Others will stash way their food – presenting the same problem to these parasites in waiting.
There’s one thing that is always a societal constant – Criminals and thugs are generally on the lower rungs of the IQ scale.
If this is their idea of prepping, the combined IQ of a group these geniuses wouldn’t add up to a decent hockey score.
As exemplified by this type of SHTF ‘plan’.
I not too worried about outsiders as I am concerned about people in our group. You really never know what a person will do in a survival situation. A friend now may be your enemy later on. You may leave one or two people in charge of your supplies, while you have to leave, come back and find them and the supplies gone.
Fear will do strange things to some people.
What if the marauders just shoot and kill you then just take what you have like the Vikings used to do. Kinda hard to poison some one if your already dead. His thinking is way off.
