Talk Of Gun Confiscation, Compulsory ‘Buy-Backs’
Recent talk of banning “assault weapons” and “high-capacity” ammunition magazines has turned into discussion about gun confiscation and compulsory “buy-backs” by leading Democrats.
(Editor’s note: How can government buy back something it never owned in the first place?)
There’s talk of confiscation and a compulsory “buy-back” in the state of New York. Thomas Kaplan reported on The New York Times website last Thursday that New York’s Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo had discussed gun “control” in an interview on an Albany radio station that same day. Kaplan wrote:
In the interview, Mr. Cuomo did not offer specifics about the measures he might propose, but, while discussing assault weapons, he said: “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”

Confiscation. Compulsory “buy-back.”
No mention of an option to not implement more gun “control” in the state of New York.
And speaking of gun confiscation- but on a national level- CBS New York ran the following on their website this past Saturday:
Amid talk of reinstating the assault weapons ban that expired eight years ago, police departments nationwide are thinking of ways to confiscate such weapons.
As WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported, among the departments considering taking action is the NYPD. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said if Congress were to reinstate the ban, police are wondering whether it will be their responsibility to confiscate them.

“Police departments nationwide are thinking of ways to confiscate such weapons.”
I don’t think owners of “assault weapons” will be too happy to hear that.
There’s also chatter about a potential national compulsory gun “buy-back.” Joel Gehrke reported on the Washington Examiner website on Friday:
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said that she and other gun control advocates are considering a law that would create a program to purchase weapons from gun owners, a proposal that could be compulsory.
We are also looking at a buy-back program,” Feinstein said today in a press conference. “Now, again, this is a work in progress so these are ideas in the development.”

Gun confiscations and compulsory “buy-backs.”
