Bullet-Resistant Backpack Inserts Make The News

Bullet-resistant backpack inserts are in the headlines these days after the Texas church shooting. Alex Harris reported on the Miami Herald website Friday:

In the arsenal of school-sponsored security measures, metal detectors, ID checks and security cameras are practically second nature. A bullet resistant backpack insert? Not so much.

At Florida Christian School, a private, nondenominational Miami-Dade school serving students from preschool to high school, that could be changing. The school has started offering parents the opportunity to buy a $120 piece of ballistic armor to turn students’ backpacks into potential lifesavers

For readers not familiar with these bullet-resistant ballistic shields…

“Test: BulletSafe panel for children’s backpacks”

That’s Chris Cheng (History Channel’s Top Shot season 4 champ) thoroughly testing out BulletSafe’s Bulletproof Backpack Panel.

Regular readers of Survival And Prosperity probably recognize the BulletSafe name as they’ve been an affiliate marketing partner of the blog for a few years now. In fact, when I first introduced the Troy, Michigan-based company back in November 2014, I mentioned this particular ballistic insert (and hilarious accompanying product video).

And since that time, BulletSafe has increased the size of the Bulletproof Backpack Panel from 10 inches by 12 inches to 10 inches by 14 inches while keeping the price the same (still only $99). From their website:

This bulletproof backpack panel makes any backpack or bag into a bulletproof backpack. It uses the same ballistic materials as our bulletproof vest. Place it inside a backpack, briefcase, bug-out bag or even a purse. It provides NIJ level IIIA protection, which means it will stop almost all handgun rounds including a .44 Magnum.

The panel is 10 inches by 14 inches and weighs just 24 ounces (1.5 lbs).

Our panel is enclosed in a washable, 600 denier polyester carrier. This carrier provides a tough outer shell so that you don’t have to worry about carrying other items in your backpack. The BulletSafe bulletproof backpack panel is rugged enough for everyday use.

Originally, the BulletSafe Bulletproof Backpack Panel was designed by our company President for his children’s backpacks. Our company then launched a successful Indiegogo campaign and the public responded. People wanted the opportunity to buy a bulletproof panel at a reasonable price and our panel offered additional features (washability, durability) that help it survive in a kid’s backpack…

Since the success of that campaign, our panel is now available to everyone. Like our vest, the BulletSafe Backpack Panel is priced so that anyone can afford ballistic protection.

That new, larger 10″ X 14″ size of the panel is almost a perfect fit for the laptop storage area within my messenger bag I’m constantly hauling around. And did I mention my “man bag” can be manipulated and positioned lengthwise over my chest? Hmm. Further investigation into this Bulletproof Backpack Panel might be necessary.

BulletSafe has rolled out other products since the backpack/bag insert. One item in particular caught my attention for the protection it may afford the individual/others in different scenarios, but I’ll save that discussion for another time.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the Bulletproof Backpack Panel and the company’s other offerings on the BulletSafe website. Upon visiting, a pop-up announces how to receive free shipping (at the time I type this).

Please note I receive a commission on every item purchased via the above link.
