Major Terrorist Attack On U.S. ‘Within Weeks’?
I stumbled on the following article on the website of WND (formerly WorldNetDaily), an independent news company. Reza Kahlili wrote Monday:
Iran has given the go-ahead to operatives of three terrorist groups that have infiltrated the United States to carry out missions, including what is expected to be a Mumbai-style attack on a hotel where innocent bystanders would be killed, WND has learned…
Three targets have been chosen within America for imminent attack, and the terror teams have now cut communications with the operational center in Iran, a sign that they are moving ahead with the attacks, according to a high-level intelligence officer within the Islamic regime.
According to an update to the piece Tuesday, Kahili’s “source” revealed the major attack would take place “within weeks.”
Interesting reading (can’t speak for how reliable the information provided is though), which can be viewed in its entirety on the WND site here.

CBS Chicago Asks: Is Chicago, Cook County Safe From Terrorists?
From a CBS Chicago news broadcast last night:
ROB JOHHNSON: Chicago’s Mayor and Police Superintendent have said they would use lessons learned from the Boston Marathon bombings to make Chicago safer.
KATE SULLIVAN: But tonight, we’ve learned that they’ve already made some changes. Chief Correspondent Jay Levine sat down with Superintendent McCarthy and began by asking the simple question, “Are we safe?” So what do you say, Jay?
JAY LEVINE: One word Kate- absolutely.
Tuesday night, CBS Chicago’s Levine focused on Cook County as the second most populous county in the U.S. refines its anti-terrorism plans and procedures in the wake of the Boston terror attack (video segment here).
Personally, as long as our borders are as porous as they are, I won’t feel safe from terrorists. It won’t stop me from doing what I want, when I want, but you won’t see me at some mass gathering or in some other situation that screams “juicy jihadist target” anytime soon.
Besides, I dislike crowds.

Infowars: DOD, Army Warn Of May 2 Terror Threat On 2nd Anniversary Of Bin Laden Death
“Thursday, May 2, is a day to be especially watchful. Jihadists are particularly fond of celebrating anniversaries and on that day in 2011 Seal Team Six found and killed Osama bin Laden. September 11. 2001 is now an indelible part of U.S. history and on September 11, 2012, jihadists attacked and killed an American ambassador and three others.”
-Alan Caruba, RenewAmerica.com, May 1, 2013
Did you know that tomorrow, May 2, 2013, is the second anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death?
To be honest, it totally slipped my mind. Until I happened to stumble across the following on Alex Jones’ Infowars website. Paul Joseph Watson wrote earlier today:
The Department of Defense and the US Army are warning of a possible terror threat to coincide with the second anniversary of the death of Osama Bin Laden, according to a memo sent to Infowars by a source based at Fort Hood.
The entire memo is posted on the Infowars site.
I haven’t heard/seen anything else about a potential terrorist attack tomorrow, although it wouldn’t be too shocking if Al-Qaeda, their affiliates, or someone/some people motivated by their cause attempt to carry out something on the second anniversary of bin Laden’s death.
Watch your six. As always.
You can head over to the Infowars site here to read what Jones and Watson have supposedly unearthed. Mind you, the memo is “unclassified/for official use only.”

Boston Marathon Explosions Al-Qaeda’s Work?
“President Barack Obama has described al Qaeda as having been ‘decimated,’ ‘on the path to defeat’ or some other variation at least 32 times since the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, according to White House transcripts.”
-CNSNews.com, November 1, 2012
If the horrific explosions in Boston earlier today are confirmed to be the result of terrorism (MSNBC is still calling them “blasts”), I, for one, wouldn’t be surprised.
After all, I’ve constantly warned Survival And Prosperity readers that the threat of terrorism is alive and well these days, particularly from Muslim extremists.
Consider what I wrote on September 10, 2012:
Since I started blogging in 2007, I’ve noticed that complacency seems to be growing over a major terror attack by Al-Qaeda. I guess it’s only natural, considering the amount of time that has passed since September 11, 2001, and the successive blows suffered by the leadership of Al-Qaeda and their affiliates. Still, security was heightened in the U.S. with the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 and in Great Britain with the 2012 London Olympics. But as September 11 rolls around again tomorrow, and being informed that the terror group is big not only on anniversaries but on raising the bar on casualties, I sense a huge degree of complacency as it concerns another terror attack in the United States tomorrow and down the road…
Al-Qaeda is like the Rodney Dangerfield of terrorist organizations these days- can’t get no respect. Look at these recent headlines on some mainstream media websites:
“Terror takes back seat; Americans safer now”
-From the Associated Press on Yahoo! News, September 8, 2012“Never have so few been able to frighten so many”
-Philly.com (joint project of The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia Daily News, September 9, 2012)“On anniversary of 9/11, fear is present but not all-consuming”
-The Boston Globe, September 10, 2012There’s even this out of Hong Kong:
“Americans stop fretting about the threat of terrorism”
-South China Morning Post, September 10, 2012I loathe Al-Qaeda as much as any other American. But let’s not call the outcome of the game (Al-Qaeda is now kaput) while it’s still in the early innings, as the next generation of terrorists- inspired by the American response and presence in the Middle East after 9/11- start to replace their predecessors who have been captured, incapacitated, and killed.
As such, keep watching your six, because I don’t think Al-Qaeda is all out of bullets just yet.
So, was today’s incident in Boston Al-Qaeda’s handiwork?
I don’t think so. From what I’ve learned about the terror group, their modus operandi would have demanded significantly more casualties than were suffered today. 9/11 is now supposedly the “bar.” An American Hiroshima- their “wet dream.” Remember their goal: 4 million Americans dead- 2 million of these children. Initial reports claimed the blast occurred well-after the first runners reached the finish line, when many reporters and news cameras had already departed. It’s widely-known Al-Qaeda recognizes the importance of the news media in broadcasting their message- and terrorist activity. Unless it’s subsequently discovered a glitch delayed the explosions, this doesn’t sound like an Al-Qaeda operation.
Plus, I understand that Al-Qaeda is fond of “celebrating” anniversaries. As far as I know, April 15 isn’t a significant date for them.
However, that’s not to say today’s carnage wasn’t the work of one of their affiliates. Or someone motivated by their cause.
Hopefully, time will tell exactly what transpired this afternoon in Boston. And if it was terrorism, who was behind it.
At which point, may justice be served.

Spring Break Over, And Stupidity Still Reigns
I’m back.
And it’s discomforting to know the world I “left” for a few days remains more or less the same.
Led by a man some refer to as “President Sparklefarts” (not too respectful if you ask me, although I have heard that respect is something that must be earned), many Americans continue to grasp onto some mythical notion of utopia on earth.
Or at least here in the United States.
One nation, under God (maybe not), with moonbeams and butterflies for all.
While at the same time, accountability, civic duty, common sense, humility, maturity, morality, and reality become increasingly alien concepts.
Did I miss anything? This Gevalia coffee is playing with my head tonight.
Upon returning to my well-worn keyboard (give me an A! no, really), my mind brings me back twenty years or so to when I first watched the “Dish and Dishonesty” episode of the British sitcom Blackadder (back then I was mocked for watching British TV; these days, if you’re not a fan of Downton Abbey, you’re not “in with the in-crowd”). From an exchange between Baldrick and his boss Blackadder:
BLACKADDER: We are reprieved. It is a triumph for stupidity over common sense.
BALDRICK: Thank you very much.
BLACKADDER: As a special reward, Baldrick, take a short holiday. [Pauses for a second.] Did you enjoy it?
“A triumph for stupidity over common sense.”
“A short holiday.”
I can relate on both counts.
Now Playing: The Prophecy Of The Popes
“Wow, Pope Benedict is resigning,” I said to my girlfriend Monday morning as she was in the kitchen gathering some things together before she left for work.
“Uh-oh, that means people will start freaking out over the Prophecy of the Popes.” I had mentioned the prophecy a few years back, but didn’t expect her to remember it.
Yet, she stopped what she was doing and uttered:
Yeah, that’s really creepy.
Move over, Mayan “apocalypse,” because Malachy is in the house.
From the free encyclopedia Wikipedia (I usually don’t use Wikipedia as source, but I thought the following write-up was pretty decent):
The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy, is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin. They purport to describe each of the Roman Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with current pope Benedict XVI’s successor, a pope described in the prophecy as “Peter the Roman”, whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome.
The prophecy was first published in 1595 by Arnold de Wyon, a Benedictine historian, as part of his book Lignum Vitæ. Wyon attributed the list to Saint Malachy, the 12th century bishop of Armagh in Ireland. According to the traditional account, in 1139, Malachy was summoned to Rome by Pope Innocent II. While in Rome, Malachy purportedly experienced a vision of future popes, which he recorded as a sequence of cryptic phrases. This manuscript was then deposited in the Roman Archive, and thereafter forgotten about until its rediscovery in 1590.
(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)
Here is the short phrase (translated from Latin) attributed to Pope Benedict’s replacement, “Peter the Roman:”
In the extreme persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit [i.e., as bishop]. Peter the Roman, who will pasture his sheep in many tribulations: and when these things are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the terrible judge will judge his people.
“And the terrible judge will judge his people.”
Creepy indeed.
Speculation is mounting regarding potential successors to Pope Benedict XVI. But Ghanian Cardinal Peter Turkson has been mentioned as a favorite.
Peter Turkson. Peter the Roman? Gulp.
In all seriousness, a number of Doomsday preppers- not mainstream ones- will most likely replace December 21, 2012, with St. Malachy’s medieval prophecy as motivation for their preparedness activity, if they hadn’t factored it in already.
Suum cuique pulchrum est (roughly translated from Latin as, “to each, their own”).
As for me, I’ve mentioned it before- the last time being to some young journalists working on a post-Mayan “apocalypse” piece- but will share it with readers again.
Whenever I hear these kinds of predictions, I think of the Bible (New Testament) and the First Book of Thessalonians, chapter 5, verse 2:
For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
You can read more about St. Malachy and the Prophecy of the Popes on Wikipedia here.
Just don’t blame me if you can’t get to sleep tonight after taking it all in.

Mayan ‘Apocalypse’ Update

Mayan ‘Apocalypse’ To Begin This Morning
Late in the afternoon yesterday Shepard Smith was on FOX News saying that the “official” start time of the Mayan ‘Apocalypse’ is 11:11 AM Eastern Time Friday, December 21, 2012.
That’s a little more than an hour away for me here in Chicago.
Despite assurances from various governments, astronomers, geologists, scientists, and countless other experts, the fact is, lots of people around the globe are concerned about this event. Especially here in the United States. Back on December 4 I blogged about the results of a May Reuters/Ipsos “end times” poll and said:
One of the findings was that 12 percent of Americans surveyed agreed with the statement “the Mayan calendar, which some says ‘ends’ in 2012, marks the end of the world.”
“12 percent.” As percentage of the U.S. population in 2011, that’s approximately 37.4 million Americans who might agree with that statement about the world ending in a couple of weeks.
(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)
Possibly 37.4 million Americans out there that believe the world is ending today.
Time will tell if they’re correct.
Like, by the end of today.
Stay tuned…
Preppers Under Attack, Part 2
“All this prepping, it gives people an identity, a group to belong to. But it definitely is emerging as the ‘new kid on the block’ as far as cults go.”
- Dr. Peter Behrens, Penn State-Lehigh Valley professor
Last Friday night, I blogged that it seems to me “preppers” are coming under increasing attack these days.
Funny how things can change so dramatically in just a few days, as “seems” is now a significant understatement in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut, shootings.
But before I talk more about that horrific incident and its possibly-implied “relationship” to prepping, I want to discuss a recent piece I came across on the Nazareth, Pennsylvania Patch website. On December 13, Elizabeth Rich wrote about preppers/survivalists and said:
According to Dr. Peter Behrens, preppers are buying into a cult.
Dr. Behrens, a Penn State-Lehigh Valley professor who specializes in the history of psychology, abnormal psychology and personality psychology, says that the most recent form of Doomsday preparations have all the earmarks of an active, recruiting cult.
“From a psychological perspective [Doomsday prepping] is bizarre. Members spend so much time and energy readying for the end of the world. Prepping is just people trying to control what is beyond their control.”
Dr. Behrens believes that clusters of preppers and the movement as a whole has all the markings of a cult.
“I think this is just a modern iteration of the phenomenon of people believing that the end is coming in their lifetime. That idea is so selfish, so self-centered, so narcissistic. It’s mind control.”
(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)
Unlike Valerie Lucus-McEwen and her concerns about the preppers featured on the National Geographic Channel TV show, according to Rich, Dr. Behrens attacks the prepping movement as a whole. It having all the markings of a cult.
A cult, huh? Would that make Doomsday Preppers evaluators Practical Preppers their Grand Poobahs then? And could National Geographic Channel now claim non-profit status on their taxes for spreading “the word” via the Doomsday Preppers TV show? Of course a uniform will be needed. Try this one on for size.
(Editor’s warning: video could be offensive to some)
Since I completed the first draft of this post, I’ve come across two more web articles that don’t paint the modern survivalist movement in a positive light.
In fact, some might argue they’re attempting to connect prepping with the Sandy Hook school shootings.
From The Telegraph (UK) website yesterday:
Connecticut school shooting: Adam Lanza’s mother was preparing for disaster
The mother of the gunman who killed 20 children and seven adults in America’s worst school massacre, was a gun-proud “survivalist” preparing for economic collapse, it has emerged.
Nancy Lanza, whose gun collection was raided by her son Adam for Friday’s massacre at Sandy Hook school, was part of the “prepper” movement, which urges readiness for social chaos by hoarding supplies and training with weapons.
“She prepared for the worst,” her sister-in-law Marsha Lanza told reporters. “Last time we visited her in person, we talked about prepping – are you ready for what could happen down the line, when the economy collapses?”
And then there’s this from The Independent (UK) site this morning:
Mother of Sandy Hook school gunman Adam Lanza was a ‘prepper’ survivalist preparing for economic and social collapse, say reports
Friends and family have portrayed Mrs Lanza as a paranoid ‘survivalist’ who believed the world was on the brink of violent collapse.
Yep. Undoubtedly, preppers are under attack these days.

Surviving Egypt Mark II
On Wednesday, I had a couple of spare minutes in what was generally a pretty frustrating day, so I decided to check out footage from a recent Madness concert posted on YouTube.com (really begins at 52:56 if you’re interested). When I saw the band play that old classic “Night Boat to Cairo,” I thought about all the “madness” going on in Egypt these days. Consider the following:
“Egypt Sees Largest Clash Since Revolutions
Tens of thousands of supporters and opponents of Egypt’s president clashed Wednesday, hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails and brawling in Cairo’s streets, in the largest violent battle between Islamists and their foes since the country’s revolution early last year.”
-Wall Street Journal website, December 6, 2012
“Early last year” I wrote about how I came across a post on Pierre Legrand’s Pink Flamingo Bar blog about the author’s recent experience surviving a real-life SHTF situation in Egypt. Legrand and his family were in Cairo, Egypt, from January 25 until February 3, 2011- which happened to coincide with the uprising that took place that eventually forced Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak out of power. Mubarak resigned from office on February 11, after the revolt claimed the lives of 846 civilians and 26 policemen.
Seeing how conditions look to be deteriorating in Egypt once again, I thought it was only appropriate to point out Pierre Legrand’s “survival lessons” from that 2011 SHTF event, which can be found on his blog here.
Enlightening stuff. A lot of it likely applicable to city dwellers here in America.
