Bullet-Resistant Backpack Inserts Make The News

Bullet-resistant backpack inserts are in the headlines these days after the Texas church shooting. Alex Harris reported on the Miami Herald website Friday:

In the arsenal of school-sponsored security measures, metal detectors, ID checks and security cameras are practically second nature. A bullet resistant backpack insert? Not so much.

At Florida Christian School, a private, nondenominational Miami-Dade school serving students from preschool to high school, that could be changing. The school has started offering parents the opportunity to buy a $120 piece of ballistic armor to turn students’ backpacks into potential lifesavers

For readers not familiar with these bullet-resistant ballistic shields…

That’s Chris Cheng (History Channel’s Top Shot season 4 champ) thoroughly testing out BulletSafe’s Bulletproof Backpack Panel.

Regular readers of Survival And Prosperity probably recognize the BulletSafe name as they’ve been an affiliate marketing partner of the blog for a few years now. In fact, when I first introduced the Troy, Michigan-based company back in November 2014, I mentioned this particular ballistic insert (and hilarious accompanying product video).

And since that time, BulletSafe has increased the size of the Bulletproof Backpack Panel from 10 inches by 12 inches to 10 inches by 14 inches while keeping the price the same (still only $99). From their website:

This bulletproof backpack panel makes any backpack or bag into a bulletproof backpack. It uses the same ballistic materials as our bulletproof vest. Place it inside a backpack, briefcase, bug-out bag or even a purse. It provides NIJ level IIIA protection, which means it will stop almost all handgun rounds including a .44 Magnum.

The panel is 10 inches by 14 inches and weighs just 24 ounces (1.5 lbs).

Our panel is enclosed in a washable, 600 denier polyester carrier. This carrier provides a tough outer shell so that you don’t have to worry about carrying other items in your backpack. The BulletSafe bulletproof backpack panel is rugged enough for everyday use.

Originally, the BulletSafe Bulletproof Backpack Panel was designed by our company President for his children’s backpacks. Our company then launched a successful Indiegogo campaign and the public responded. People wanted the opportunity to buy a bulletproof panel at a reasonable price and our panel offered additional features (washability, durability) that help it survive in a kid’s backpack…

Since the success of that campaign, our panel is now available to everyone. Like our vest, the BulletSafe Backpack Panel is priced so that anyone can afford ballistic protection.

That new, larger 10″ X 14″ size of the panel is almost a perfect fit for the laptop storage area within my messenger bag I’m constantly hauling around. And did I mention my “man bag” can be manipulated and positioned lengthwise over my chest? Hmm. Further investigation into this Bulletproof Backpack Panel might be necessary.

BulletSafe has rolled out other products since the backpack/bag insert. One item in particular caught my attention for the protection it may afford the individual/others in different scenarios, but I’ll save that discussion for another time.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the Bulletproof Backpack Panel and the company’s other offerings on the BulletSafe website. Upon visiting, a pop-up announces how to receive free shipping (at the time I type this).

Please note I receive a commission on every item purchased via the above link.

BulletSafe Introduces $99 Bulletproof Baseball Cap Via Kickstarter

Back in November 2014 I introduced new affiliate marketing partner BulletSafe. The Troy, Michigan-based distributor of bulletproof products is widely-known for their $299 NIJ Level IIIA BulletSafe Bulletproof Vest. However, these days all the talk is about the BulletSafe Bulletproof Baseball Cap. From their website:

BulletSafe Launches Their New Bulletproof Baseball Cap Via Kickstarter

BulletSafe, the company that last year introduced a $299 Level IIIA bulletproof vest is now introducing a bulletproof baseball cap. The cap, which offers frontal protection, isn’t meant to replace a SWAT-style helmet, but is instead meant to be worn all of the time and to project a more approachable image.

“This cap gives increased protection without intimidation. It’s a discreet way for officers to be a little bit safer and aligns with community policing practices,” said Tom Nardone of BulletSafe.

Will officers like the hat? Will they wear it? Will departments buy them? Do regular people want them? These are all questions that will affect the future of this product. The hats are comfortable, discreet, professional, and inexpensive. They are comfortable because the hard ballistic panel rests upon the wearer’s forehand and weighs about 7 ounces. They are discreet, with no real difference between the look of the bulletproof hat and a premium fitted baseball cap. They are also reasonably priced. The retail price will be just $129 or about 1/3 the price of a SWAT helmet.

To find out if the BulletSafe Bulletproof Baseball Cap will be successful, BulletSafe is launching the project via Kickstarter.com, a crowd funding site. Kickstarter allows people to pre-order a new product at a discount while helping get the product off the ground. In exchange for buying the BulletSafe Bulletproof Baseball Cap on Kickstarter, backers get a special price of $99.

BulletSafe recently completed prototype tests and they are targeting NIJ Level IIA protection for the cap. The project launch has gone well, after just two days, the project is beyond 50% of its pre-order goal.

The company will also be showing the bulletproof baseball cap at SHOT Show booth #616 and other trade shows. The Kickstarter project is currently live and is offering the special pre-order price until January 26th…

The Kickstarter campaign ends in 11 days, but it already has 143 backers who have pledged $9,924 of the $3,500 goal. Congratulations to BulletSafe on this accomplishment.

That being said, they’re still offering the bulletproof baseball cap for the special pre-order price of $99 (“$30 less than the expected $129 future price”) until January 26.

For more information about the BulletSafe Kickstarter project (and obtaining a bulletproof cap), visit the campaign page here.

Advertiser Spotlight: BulletSafe

“Body armor is not something a lot of people think of. Even people that carry guns, most of them don’t own or consider they need body armor…

But as violence gets worse, as the possibility of a gunfight gets closer and you hear about neighbors, people you know getting shot, you have a much better picture…

Just like your firearm or your fire extinguisher, body armor is the kind of ‘insurance’ you need to buy before you need it.”

-Fernando “FerFAL” Aguirre, in a Surviving In Argentina blog post from October 28, 2008

When I think of quality body armor that’s available to the public, BulletSafe comes to mind. From the Troy, Michigan-based company’s website:

BulletSafe.com offers a great bulletproof vest at an unbelievable price.

BulletSafe.com was launched by the team at PriveCo Inc. and Tom Nardone, PriveCo’s CEO. Tom is a former military equipment Test Engineer with extensive experience testing the ballistics capabilities of mechanical components.

Mr. Nardone is taking the challenge of delivering great ballistics protection gear at an affordable price. He ensures that the products we sell are safe, meet the test standards, and are offered at a great price.

The flagship product of BulletSafe is a high-quality-yet-affordable bullet-resistant vest. From their website:

BulletSafe Bulletproof Vests – BulletSafe makes a great bulletproof vest at an unbelievable price. You can buy our vest right here. It offers NIJ Level IIIA protection for just $299. It’s a great vest too, with a large coverage area, plate pockets for ballistic plates, 6 sizes to fit almost everyone, and high-quality materials. Did we mention the unbelievable price? Just $299. Bulletsafe bulletproof vests are the first great, affordable bulletproof vests.

How do we make a great bullet resistant vest for such a low price? Simple, first we decided that we wanted to offer the best bulletproof vest for the price, anywhere. Then we designed the vest. We didn’t need to sacrifice protection or quality, we just had to limit the options available. Our vest is available in one style, six sizes, and you can order any color you want, as long as that color is black (Just like Henry Ford’s Model T). Our vest will meet the needs of lots of people, and our price is attractive to everyone.

In addition to BulletSafe ballistic plates ($169 as I type this) that offer Level IV protection when used in conjunction with BulletSafe vests, there’s also the recently-introduced BulletSafe Bulletproof Backpack Panel. From the website:

This bulletproof backpack panel uses the same ballistic materials as our bulletproof vest. It can be used inside a backpack, briefcase, bug-out bag or even a purse. It provides NIJ level IIIA protection, which means it will stop almost all handgun rounds including a .44 Magnum.

The panel is 10 inches by 12 inches and weighs just 20 ounces (1.25 lbs).

Your price for the backpack panel? Only $99 as I type this.

In addition, right now, receive a free gift (looks like a paracord bracelet on the website) with your BulletSafe order.
