Off The X Training Concepts Announces 2017 Preparedness, Self-Protection Classes In Glenview, Illinois

Any Chicagoland readers familiar with Off The X Training Concepts in Glenview, Illinois? I’ve mentioned the north suburban preparedness/personal safety training outfit before on Survival And Prosperity, but never really dedicated a full post to them. From their Facebook page:

Off the X Training Concepts was created to offer an extensive selection of training opportunities in the areas of preparedness and self-protection. It was founded on the belief that every individual should have access to information and training, better preparing them to take ownership of their personal safety and the safety of loved ones. Unlike many training schools and programs, OTX does not promote or teach a specific school of thought or discipline, but instead acts as a hub for a variety of training platforms and instruction. This allows the individual access to a variety of philosophies, which enables them the ability to find what works best for them…

The reason I bring up OTX, as they’re also known by, is that I spotted the following post this morning on their Facebook page regarding upcoming training opportunities:

WE ARE BACK!! OTX is pleased to announce several upcoming training offerings for 2017!!

In March and October we will be hosting Craig Douglas / Shivworks for their EWO and ECQC classes.

Also in March we will begin offering monthly boxing/conditioning groups instructed by Fernando (Beast) Rivera.

Beginning in April, OTX will be hosting an Illinois concealed carry class every other month.

In June we are super excited to be hosting a combined two day training to be taught by Cecil Burch of Immediate Action Combatives, Larry Lindenman of Point Driven Training and Paul Sharp of Sharp Defense. The course is entitled Dominating the entangled fight.

In July we have several course offerings to include a two day medical class being taught by Caleb Causey from Lone Star Medics, a firearms skill building class and a firearms home defense class.

And this is just the beginning. We look forward to introducing several new weekly and monthly training offerings. Specific event postings will follow in the days to come!!!!

(Editor’s note: Bold added for more information)

Sounds terrific. For more information about Off The X Training Concepts and these opportunities, head on over to their website here and Facebook page here (much more info on their Facebook page).

Battle House: Chicago-Area Simulated Combat Via ‘Advanced’ Laser Tag

Monday morning I was typing away on my laptop in front of the TV when I heard Ana Belaval of WGN (Chicago) Morning News talk about something called “Battle House” in her “Around Town” segment. Hearing loud combat-like noises, I looked up and saw a number of people running around some artificial city firing assault rifle-like objects at each other. What the hell was going on? From the website of Battle House, “Illinois’s Premier, Multi-dimensional Mission-based Tactical Laser Tag Experience”:

Battle House Mission Based Laser Tag provides an absolutely thrilling, adrenaline pumping, calorie burning experience. Our advanced laser tag facility is located in the Village of Lake Barrington serving northern Illinois including Cary, Crystal Lake, Lake Zurich and many cities in the Lake County area. The facility will be made available for use to public safety and U.S. Military organizations at significantly discounted pricing for training and team building.

We offer a second story mezzanine lounge area serving beverages and snacks, party rooms, conference room facilities and 15,000 + square foot facility designated with the simple purpose of having fun and/or professional training for nearly all ages. Game play is virtually continuous for you and your teammates once you complete the initial pre-registration process and the safety and orientation briefing. For parents, this is a chance for you to “play” with your kids, get off the couch and into a unique and exiting experience that you will talk about for years to come.

Our advanced laser tag pricing is all-inclusive; there are no hidden or separate fees to access the arena, the equipment, or taxes.

The Battle House staff is trained to provide you an enjoyable experience and provide the highest levels of customer service and safety. As you will find out, many of them are prior military veterans or public safety professionals. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and play with some of the best…

“Battle House Laser Combat”
WGN Video

After watching that WGN Morning News segment, I wondered if any combat training could be gleaned from playing “mission-based, tactical laser tag.” Then I read this on the site:

“Elite Tactics Training” – To improve your tactical laser tag gaming skills, learn close quarters battle tactics from the experts. Bring your group to Battle House and experience first hand training on techniques, communication, team movements, etc. from former U.S. Military Veterans and retired Law Enforcement Professionals.

* Scheduling the “Elite” service requires 2-week advance notice. Pricing is determined based on group size and number of participants…

That Elite Tactics Training sounds promising. As for other combat training- I can’t see why a group of like-minded individuals couldn’t work on “techniques, communication, team movements, etc.” during regular game play at Battle House.

I think it’s great Battle House caters to active/former law enforcement and members of the U.S. armed services, going so far as to giving them discounts:

Active Military and Veterans, Current and former Public Safety Employees receive a 15% discount off our standard pricing by providing proof of current or prior service.

And free use of the facility for public safety training:

Battle House offers its combat mission based laser facility to law enforcement and other public safety organizations at no cost on both Mondays or Tuesdays when we are normally not open to the public. Your training events can also be scheduled on other days of the week, prior to our normal public hours of operation, at no cost.

Alternatively, you may also consider reserving the facility during our normal business hours for a discounted rate.

If you choose to utilize our equipment for training purposes, we will offer those to you at a substantially discounted price based on the number of participants and the type of equipment you request…

I understand Battle House just opened. If you’re interested in more information about the facility, check out their website here.
