Off The X Training Concepts Announces 2017 Preparedness, Self-Protection Classes In Glenview, Illinois

Any Chicagoland readers familiar with Off The X Training Concepts in Glenview, Illinois? I’ve mentioned the north suburban preparedness/personal safety training outfit before on Survival And Prosperity, but never really dedicated a full post to them. From their Facebook page:

Off the X Training Concepts was created to offer an extensive selection of training opportunities in the areas of preparedness and self-protection. It was founded on the belief that every individual should have access to information and training, better preparing them to take ownership of their personal safety and the safety of loved ones. Unlike many training schools and programs, OTX does not promote or teach a specific school of thought or discipline, but instead acts as a hub for a variety of training platforms and instruction. This allows the individual access to a variety of philosophies, which enables them the ability to find what works best for them…

The reason I bring up OTX, as they’re also known by, is that I spotted the following post this morning on their Facebook page regarding upcoming training opportunities:

WE ARE BACK!! OTX is pleased to announce several upcoming training offerings for 2017!!

In March and October we will be hosting Craig Douglas / Shivworks for their EWO and ECQC classes.

Also in March we will begin offering monthly boxing/conditioning groups instructed by Fernando (Beast) Rivera.

Beginning in April, OTX will be hosting an Illinois concealed carry class every other month.

In June we are super excited to be hosting a combined two day training to be taught by Cecil Burch of Immediate Action Combatives, Larry Lindenman of Point Driven Training and Paul Sharp of Sharp Defense. The course is entitled Dominating the entangled fight.

In July we have several course offerings to include a two day medical class being taught by Caleb Causey from Lone Star Medics, a firearms skill building class and a firearms home defense class.

And this is just the beginning. We look forward to introducing several new weekly and monthly training offerings. Specific event postings will follow in the days to come!!!!

(Editor’s note: Bold added for more information)

Sounds terrific. For more information about Off The X Training Concepts and these opportunities, head on over to their website here and Facebook page here (much more info on their Facebook page).

Resource Of The Week: In The Rabbit Hole Urban Survival Podcast

In yesterday’s post I talked about modern survivalist Jack Spirko and his advice for dealing with this election cycle’s intensifying insanity. I mentioned Spirko is the long-time host of The Survival Podcast, which I named a “Resource Of The Week” all the way back on March 4, 2011. Great stuff, and I still cherry-pick from the latest episodes posted on the TSP website on a regular basis.

There’s one other prepper/survival-related podcast I listen to these days:

In The Rabbit Hole Urban Survival Podcast

From the podcast section of the ITRH website:

After years of being frustrated that no one was fully addressing the concerns of urban survivalists, Aaron [Frankel] and Jonathan [Kanarek] took to the web and founded In The Rabbit Hole in February of 2010. Shortly after they’re long time friend and accomplice Jason joined the show to add a touch of “Red Neck Cajun”. Since then the show has enjoyed many great guests and a wide range of topics.

They are three city boys with a lifetime affinity for the outdoors, but a love of the city, passion for survival topics, and Libertarian Ideals…

“In The Rabbit Hole is about focusing first on the things that matter most: What’s likely to happen. Then preparing for it in a rational and productive way.”

These priorities of urban survival come from the focal points of Community, Health and Intelligence–referred to as “Survival CHI”.

Through a weekly podcast and articles, Aaron, Jonathan, and Jason remind people to “Stay safe and sound”. (Safe in person and sound in mind.)

From the Lone Star State, the trio reach out to people who are interested in taking personal responsibility for their own safety and well-being…

…And who just happen to live in the city.

While not a “long-time listener” to the podcast, I’ve noticed it’s not just urban preppers/survivalists who could learn a thing or two from the material presented. The ITRH site adds:

Hosts Aaron, Jason, and Jonathan cover topics such as:

Self Sufficiency
Food Storage
Homesteading in the city
Survival Book, Video, and Gear Reviews
Starting Off as a New Prepper
Financial Survival
Self Reliance
Preparing for Natural Disasters
Emergency Medicine
Firearms, Guns, and things that go bang
Self Defense
Disaster Psychology

Surveying the latest episodes listed on the ITRH website, episode 191, “Surviving Refugee Hell” (posted October 17)- with James Price, Founder/Director of Humanitarian Aid Security Forces (HASF)- sounds like my next listen.

Interested in tuning-in too? Head on over to the In The Rabbit Hole Urban Survival Podcast website here.

But before you do, there’s also this from the ITRH gang:

Not sure where to begin?

Two of ITRH’s most acclaimed episodes that paint a clear picture of what the Podcast is about are:

TEOTWAWKI Reality Check: What do you really need to be prepping for.

Survival CHI- Reloaded: The foundational principles of ITRH.

Retired CPD Sergeant And TouchVision Crime Reporter Calls Out Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel And Pals

Any Chicago-area readers of this blog ever watch TouchVision, the new 24-hour video news and information channel that’s only recently come to the city? In these parts it’s located over on subchannel 48.2. Not sure if it’s on cable or satellite TV just yet.

Anyway, I was watching TouchVision’s Crime Report last night with my girlfriend, when retired Chicago Police Department sergeant and crime reporter Pete Koconis came on. Koconis talked about a recent murder as part of an ongoing feud between two different factions of the Gangster Disciples street gang in Chicago when he launched into this stinging criticism of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and his cronies down at City Hall:

Forget the guy who gets on that television set [and says] “homicides are down.” Sure they are. Is it because of him? No. It’s because of the men and women in blue who risks their lives on your streets daily, and the emergency room doctors who somehow save lives…

Oh, there’s more. Koconis added later on:

Stop spending money on making your city look good. Spend the money on making the city work. Where you can be safe anywhere, and at any time.

Amen.

I don’t know if it’s realistic to think “you can be safe anywhere, and at any time” entirely in the “concrete jungle” that is Chicago.

Still, there’s no use of gussying up the joint when the city is crime-infested as a result of short-changing public safety.

Along those same lines, the attitude taken by City Hall these days seems to be “if you build it, they will come.”

No. Not if Chicago cements its growing reputation as being a dangerous place to live/visit they won’t.

Safety first. Otherwise City Hall is just putting lipstick on a pig.

As Democrats like to say a lot these days, “It’s only common sense.”

You can watch this latest Crime Report on TouchVision’s website here. Plug “gangs” into the site’s query tool (click on magnifying glass along right-hand side) and look for “GANG TURF WAR 12/6/2013” among results.
