Peter Schiff Predicts Resumption Of Dollar Decline, Gold Rally This Week

It’s been a while, but Euro Pacific Capital CEO Peter Schiff added a new entry to The Schiff Report YouTube vlog on Saturday. Schiff, who correctly-called the housing bust and economic crisis last decade, talked about a number of subjects, including his belief that the Federal Reserve has no intention of raising rates in March, “a lot” of dollar selling is coming, and the gold rally will resume. From the video:

The reason the Fed didn’t give a clue that it might be raising rates in March, is because it has no intention of doing so…

I think the trade deficits are going up. I think the budget deficits are going up. Certainly to the extent that we get some tax cuts. We continue to get more government spending. If we get more government spending under Trump on the military, on the border, on infrastructure. Rising trade deficits. Rising budget deficits. Rising inflation. All of this is going to be a big negative for the dollar. And of course, everybody was so loaded up long the dollar, I think the people who own the dollar- there’s a lot of dollar selling that’s coming. And I think the dollar bulls are going to end up losing a lot of money…

Since the beginning of this year the Dow is barely up more than 1 percent. You can contrast that to the price of gold which is up 6 percent so far this year. Look at gold stocks. Gold stocks are up 17 percent as a group so far in 2017. 17 percent. Everybody’s talking about the Dow. No one’s talking about gold stocks. In fact, gold stocks were the number one performing sector last year, by far. Wasn’t even close. And they’re already by far the number one performing sector this year. But nobody really wants to talk about it…

I think we’re going to see a resumption of the dollar decline and gold rally next week…

Marc Faber Bullish On Gold, Gold Shares, Platinum

Swiss-born investment advisor/money manager Marc Faber was on the CNBC TV show Trading Nation yesterday. The publisher of the monthly investment newsletter The Gloom Boom & Doom Report talked about potential investment opportunities, including precious metals. Dr. Faber told viewers:

As I said last year, precisely a year ago, when Barrick was around $6 and Newmont Mining around $17, I think that gold shares, after the recent correction, are still attractive. Don’t forget, gold has been talked down a lot recently, but the fact is when you say that gold is a currency, what has been the strongest currency on Earth this year? It’s up 11 percent in dollars, 32 percent in British pounds, and in Euros 14 percent. So I don’t think it’s been doing all that badly, even following the recent correction…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

After saying the U.S. economy “is not doing well” and predicting President-elect Trump will be a “Keynesian” and money printer, Faber added:

I would buy gold and platinum– they are depressed.

Regular readers of Survival And Prosperity know that Marc Faber has been a long-time gold bull. Covering the V International Central and Eastern European Investment Conference in Warsaw, Poland, last Friday (where Faber was the keynote speaker), the Hungarian financial news website Portfolio reported:

Faber is optimistic for gold, arguing it should form a 20% component of a good investment portfolio. As a reserve, he prefers holding bullion to purchasing indirectly via ETFs, but maintains that exchange-traded gold funds are not a bad thing either…

Marc Faber: ‘Most Attractive Assets In My View Are Gold Shares And Oil And Gas Shares’

Swiss-born investment advisor/money manager Marc Faber was on the phone with the CNBC TV show Trading Nation last Wednesday. The publisher of the monthly investment newsletter The Gloom Boom & Doom Report talked investment strategy, and shared the following with viewers:

My view is that in June, [the Federal Reserve] will not move, that they will not increase rates. And that the market will begin to perceive that the Fed wants to support asset markets, which they have stated on numerous occasions before. And that in that environment, gold, which from now on may correct maybe 5 percent or so, will start to move up again. I think an investor should understand, we don’t know how far central banks will move around the world. We need to be diversified. To own some real estate makes sense. To own some equities makes sense. To own some cash and bonds probably makes sense. And to own some precious metals makes sense. The most attractive assets in my view are gold shares and oil and gas shares. I think they still have significant upside potential this year.

Peter Schiff: Rising Gold Stock Prices ‘Just Getting Started’

Peter Schiff, the CEO of Euro Pacific Capital who correctly-called last decade’s housing crash and recent global economic crisis, was on the Fox Business Network yesterday. Chatting with Liz Claman about the recent terrific performance of gold mining stocks, Schiff told viewers:

But this is just getting started. These gold stocks are just recovering ground they never should have lost. I don’t know why anybody’s surprised at these bad numbers coming out of Macy’s. The retailers have been reporting horrible sales all year. The consumer is broke. We are back in recession. That’s why Trump is a nominee. That’s why Bernie Sanders is beating Hillary Clinton in all these primaries. Because the voters know how awful this economy is. They don’t have any money left to spend…

GoldSilver.com’s Mike Maloney Predicts U.S. Currency Crisis ‘Before The End Of This Decade’

One “crash prophet” who I check in on from time to time is Mike Maloney, a precious metals expert, advisor, and author who runs California-based GoldSilver.com (specializing in the instruction of precious metals investing and providing world-class gold/silver dealer services). This afternoon I watched two videos in which he was featured, and thought I should share his observations with Survival And Prosperity readers.

First off, in a video just uploaded onto his YouTube channel Tuesday, Mike Maloney informed viewers:

I’m making this video because I’ve noticed a major shift in the markets lately. Every trader, every investor, everybody in the world is looking at this. This is the Wilshire 5000 but the S&P or the Dow- they all look the same. There’s these major topping patterns, and we’ve put in a third, what looks like to everybody, a major topping pattern. And what we’re seeing is more, very, very large customers- people that are cashing out of the stock markets and going into gold and silver…

Here at GoldSilver, what we’re seeing is a shift from a whole lot of smaller purchases to some very, very big purchases coming in. It’s highly unusual. And what I get out of it is that people are scared. So I just wanted to update everybody on the markets, to me, look like they are topping out…

“Markets Topping Out, Large Investors Run To Gold – Mike Maloney”
YouTube Video

In the second video, Mike Maloney focuses on the “big picture.” Speaking to investment newsletter publisher Jay Taylor on his web-based radio show Turning Hard Times into Good Times, Maloney said in a video uploaded on YouTube on January 20:

I believe we’re going to have a currency crisis before the end of this decade. But everyone is going to feel it. And only precious metals investors are going to benefit from it…

Taylor asked Maloney:

I recall a discussion you and I and my friend Ian Gordon had up there in Vancouver two or three years ago in which you were almost in complete agreement with Ian’s views that we were heading into a deflationary implosion the likes of which probably would make the 1930s look like child’s play. Are you still of that view? And if so, isn’t the dollar then a store of value if we’re in a deflationary environment?

Maloney responded:

Yes it will be temporarily. It’s going to be the beneficiary. This will probably start out of China or Europe and there will be this temporary flight to what people have been taught is this safe haven- which is U.S. Treasury bonds. And that will make the dollar the beneficiary of this temporary event. But we are in for a global deflationary episode. And so the dollar will rise temporarily… And so you’re going to see one last pop in the dollar probably, but then you’re going to see gold take off like a rocket

Maloney envisions this deflationary event turning into a hyperinflationary episode. He finished the interview with the following:

I think the markets have topped right now. And we are in the space where over the next few years we’re going to see a really big crash…

What you’re going to probably see is a short-term dip in precious metals and you have to use- to me, I’m using this to buy. I think gold under $2,000 is just a bargain-and-a-half. So if you can buy down near $1,000, or if it does dip under $1,000- I don’t think you’re going to be able to get a whole lot of physical for under $1,000 but the stocks will be a bargain. This is the time right now. Before gold starts to spike is when you want to buy, not after. Then, it’s going to take off like a rocket one of these days and never look back…

Peter Schiff Predicts ‘A Horrendous Christmas,’ ‘The Dow Is Going To Rally From Here,’ And ‘Gold Stocks Are Going To Take Off’

Euro Pacific Capital CEO Peter Schiff just added a new entry to The Schiff Report YouTube vlog Friday. Schiff, who correctly-called the housing bust and economic crisis last decade, shared some forecasts with viewers. From the video:

I think that given the lousy jobs number that we just got, given the revision to the previous numbers making them worse, given now today’s factory orders and the economic data that we’re likely to get next week, I think before long- or it’s not going to be too long- before the Atlanta Fed GDP now reflects a negative print, a negative number, for third quarter GDP. Now, if we get a negative number for third quarter GDP, I bet we get another negative number that’s even bigger for the fourth quarter. Because if you look at the trend over the last six years or so, the fourth quarter is always weaker than the third. The third quarter is a stronger quarter. And if that quarter is weak, what does that tell you about the second quarter? It’s going to be even weaker. So if we get a negative third quarter, and then we get a negative fourth quarter, well, that’s a recession. Right? Technically that’s a recession. What the Fed going to do?

This is going to be a horrendous Christmas, that’s my forecast, as far as what the retailers are expecting and what they’re going to get. This is probably going to be the worst Christmas shopping season of the recovery. And I think next year a lot more layoffs are coming…

The Dow was down as much as 250 points or so early in the morning. But then the buyers came in because they realized, “Hey wait a minute! If the Fed isn’t going to raise rates, then this party can continue for a while longer.” And the Dow finished up 200 points. That’s a 450 point move. We were almost down at the Black Monday lows. I think this was a pretty significant reversal. My guess is that the Dow is going to rally from here. I don’t know if it’s going to rally to new highs- that would be a stretch. But I think right now, given the weakness of this report, I think that you can see some strength in the U.S. stock market…

This time, if the dollar rises based on an anticipation of rate hikes, and the hikes don’t even come, can you imagine how much selling there’s going to be on that fact, when you don’t even get the event that everybody’s been waiting for? That’s going to work in reverse for gold. People have been selling gold for the same reason. “Oh, the Fed’s going to raise rates- that’s going to be bad for gold.” You know, when the Fed raised rates last time, it was great for gold, because gold rose the whole time. But imagine how good it’s going to be for gold when everybody expects a rate hike, and instead we get QE 4. I think this is going to be the biggest up-leg of the gold bull market, which means the gold stocks are going to take off if I am right, because gold stocks today are cheaper than they were when the last bull market began when gold was under $300 an ounce. They’re cheaper now with gold at $1,130 than they were when gold was $270…

Peter Schiff: Sell Dollars, Buy Gold, Gold Stocks, Chinese Stocks

The second “crash prophet” I’ll be blogging about this weekend is Peter Schiff, the CEO and chief global strategist of Euro Pacific Capital. Schiff, who correctly called the housing bust and 2008 economic crisis, appeared on CNBC Asia last Wednesday and shared the following with viewers:

The dollar has had a huge rally based on the anticipation of a normalization of interest rates, of a shrinking of the Fed’s $4.5 trillion balance sheet. All this is wrong. None of this is going to happen. It’s all fantasy. That balance sheet is going to explode when they launch QE 4. So the dollar is a bubble. You should sell dollars. Gold has been suppressed because people have been buying dollars and selling gold. Gold’s a great buy. Gold stocks. And you’ve had a nice correction I think in your part of the world, in Hong Kong. Some of these Chinese shares, I think there’s a lot of opportunities there to look to protect yourself in the equity markets. Because when the Fed unleashes QE 4, that’s going to send a lot of money into the emerging markets. A lot of money is going to leave the U.S. in search of safe havens.

Marc Faber Warns Of Massive Deflation In Asset Prices, Shares Buy Recommendations

Monday, Swiss-born investment advisor/money manager Marc Faber was on the phone with Trish Regan of the FOX Business Network show The Intelligence Report. The publisher of the monthly investment newsletter The Gloom Boom & Doom Report warned viewers that:

Everything is in a bubble.

Dr. Faber subsequently predicted massive deflation in asset prices was coming. When Regan asked him what he would recommend people buy, the man famous for advising clients to get out of the U.S. stock market one week before the October 1987 crash offered up:

I tell you it will be very difficult to hide, because even bank deposits may not be safe. But, relatively inexpensive are gold mining shares, silver mining shares, and physical gold and silver. But you have to hold it physically and preferably outside the U.S.

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

Regan asked Faber why outside the United States. He replied:

Because in the U.S., and even in Europe and Switzerland, there is a threat that one day when things really will go bad, central bankers will blame the gold holders for the disaster, and they will say, “We’ll have to take the gold away,” and so forth. This is less likely to happen in Asia.

Peter Schiff: Gold Still On Course For $5,000 An Ounce Or More

In a recent MarketWatch phone interview, Peter Schiff, President and CEO of Euro Pacific Capital, repeated his call for the price of gold to reach and possibly surpass $5,000. Myra Saefong reported on the financial news website Friday morning:

“You need to be long gold and there is going to be a huge payday,” Schiff said. “Ultimately,” gold will see $5,000 an ounce and it “could go higher.”

Though gold has been range bound since about mid-2013, Schiff said the turning point for the metal would be a close above the high it saw in January. Gold futures peaked at around $1,300.70 that month, according to FactSet.

“That’ll change the current dynamic,” Schiff argues…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

I’ve blogged about that $5,000 number from Schiff before. Back on October 25, 2012, Schiff told viewers of CNBC’s Futures Now TV show:

$1,700? One day we’re going to look back at $1,700 with nostalgia. People are going to be shocked at how inexpensive gold was when it could be snapped up for such a bargain price. It’s not going to take too long. Just in a few years. I mean, we’re talking gold $5,000. That’s not the ceiling. That might end up being the low end of the range that we’re going to be into. Remember, Ben Bernanke has promised to print over a trillion dollars in 2013. I think he’s going to print more than that. It’s not going to revive the economy. It’s not going to create jobs. But it will help destroy the dollar. And that is going to send gold higher…

I think you’re going to see a big move in the next couple of years.

It’s not just physical gold he’s bullish on. Saefong added in that MarketWatch piece:

“I think the upside in gold stocks is phenomenal from here,” Schiff said.

Marc Faber Recommends Equities, Real Estate, Precious Metals To Counter Stock Market Plummet

Swiss-born investment advisor/money manager Marc Faber was on the CNBC TV show Trading Nation yesterday. Speaking by phone, the publisher of the monthly investment newsletter The Gloom Boom & Doom Report reminded viewers of the stock market correction he’s been predicting for some time now. Dr. Faber said:

I think that the market is in a position where’s it’s not just going to be a 10 percent correction- maybe first goes up a bit further. But when it comes it will be 30 percent or 40 percent minimum.

Famous for advising clients to get out of the U.S. stock market one week before the October 1987 crash and for predicting the 2008 global financial crisis, Faber added:

I’m not short the market yet.

Nevertheless, it sounds like the “crash prophet” is prepared. “Dr. Doom” shared with viewers:

I don’t want to be 100 percent in cash for the simple reason that I don’t trust governments, and I don’t trust banks. So I want to own some equities, I want to own some properties, and I want to own some precious metals. And when we talk about stocks, the only group that stands out as great value around the world are gold mining shares.

Faber went on to talk about gold stocks more in-depth.

Later on in the show, Dr. Faber added:

If I look at the ignorance of central bankers, and their recklessness of printing money from the U.S. to the ECB to Japan to the Bank of England, I want to own some precious metals.
