Illinois State Rifle Association: ‘Good Riddance’ Barack Obama

A January 20 press release from the Illinois State Rifle Association (“dedicated to education, safety training and support of Illinois firearm owners”) is making the rounds on the Internet. Executive Director Richard Pearson penned:

ISRA: Goodbye Barack… Hello Donald

“About eight years ago, I penned a letter to gun owners nationwide about my experiences lobbying Barack Obama when he was an Illinois State Senator. Among the adjectives, I used to describe Senator Obama were arrogant, rude, self-righteous, indignant and aloof. I warned gun owners that an Obama presidency would cast the darkest of days upon supporters of our Second Amendment. I advised gun owners that the only hope for preserving gun rights would be a sustained pushback against Obama’s attempts to obliterate civilian firearm ownership.

There was never any doubt in my mind that Obama would seek to crush the Second Amendment. Obama entered office with the very firm intention of satisfying the globalist ideal of knocking America down a couple of pegs. Thus, in no time at all, President Obama attacked two great American icons – General Motors and our superlative health care system. Next on his plate was an assault on the uniquely American sense of rugged individualism. As we all know, self-reliance is predicated upon the existence of the Second Amendment. Plain and simple – without a Second Amendment, individualism is just a fantasy. Yes, early in his tenure, Barack Obama was achieving his objective of making America more like the rest of the world rather than encouraging the rest of the world to be more like us.

When Obama charged headlong into the gun control fray, he was met with stubborn and determined opposition from everyday gun owners. We fought him in Congress. We fought him in the federal courts. We fought him in the court of public opinion. In the end, the good guys won and the promise of a nation-wide version of Chicago-style gun control faded into irrelevance. For that, gun owners owe themselves a hearty pat on the back.

Now enters Donald Trump- President Donald Trump. Trump has made a lot of promises to gun owners and I hope he keeps them. Copious promises notwithstanding, the nation’s gun owners must remain mobilized and prepared to fight the gun control movement whether the battle is at the national, state, or local level. The fight for gun rights is not over and will never be over.

In closing, I’d like to bid Barack Obama “good riddance,” and wish President Trump well in the monumental job he is about to undertake.”

The ISRA is the state’s leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

Illinois ‘Gun Dealer Licensing Act’ Shot Down

“House Bill 1016, or the Gun Dealer Licensing Act, could make the process of buying guns in Illinois even harder. Under the new regulations, gun shop owners would have to apply for an additional state license on top of the ones they’re already required to get from Illinois and the Federal Government. It’s got local gun shop owners and their customers concerned…”

-WSIL-TV 3 (Southern Illinois ABC affiliate), May 25, 2016

The Illinois “Gun Dealer Licensing Act” is dead.

For now at least.

From a press release on the Illinois State Rifle Association website today:

6/1/2016

OBNOXIOUS EFFORT TO BAN GUN SHOPS TURNED BACK IN ILLINOIS
CONTACT: Richard Pearson, Illinois State Rifle Association, (815) 635-3198
WEB SITE: http://www.isra.org

SPRINGFIELD, IL– The following was released today by Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) Executive Director, Richard Pearson:

“Hard work and a good dose of civic pride prevailed this week as a divisive and punitive piece of gun control legislation was hammered to death in the Illinois House. By way of thousands of phone calls, emails, and witness slip filings, the Illinois General Assembly got the message that Illinoisans do not want some hate-filled outsider telling them what guns they can buy and where they can buy them.”

“Earlier this spring, former astronaut Mark Kelly rolled into town trumpeting his ‘Gun Dealer Licensing Act’ as the sure-fire cure for Chicago’s violent crime epidemic. In reality, Kelly’s proposal was nothing more than a transparent attempt to put lawful firearm retailers out of business.”

“If enacted, Kelly’s bill would result in jumps in retail prices of firearms by $100 or more along with doubling the price of a box of ammunition. Kelly’s bill would foist an unbearable regulatory burden on lawful firearm retailers which would cause many, if not most to close their doors. The good people of Illinois saw right through Kelly’s scheme and responded swiftly – making it abundantly clear that they’d have nothing of it. So, at the stroke of midnight, the ‘Gun Dealer Licensing Act’ became nothing but a fireball streaking across the stratosphere over Springfield.”

“Kelly’s campaign against the Second Amendment is driven by his hatred of citizens who dare to own firearms. Thus, the Gun Dealer Licensing Act proposal was nothing more than a thinly-veiled effort to punish lawful gun owners. Kelly and his ilk have promised to bring the bill back next session. We really wish that Kelly and his pals would not come back – we’re sick of looking at him. On behalf of the citizens of Illinois, I’m asking Kelly to abort reentry, return to low-earth orbit, and stay there.”

“If the gun control movement is really serious about reducing violent crime, they will turn their attention away from closing lawful gun shops and towards the root of violent crime – the career criminal. The Chicago Police Department’s own figures indicate that nearly 90% of murderers have previous criminal records while, at the same time, three-quarters of murder victims have previous convictions as well. If the corrections authorities cannot rehabilitate violent criminals, then they need to keep them behind bars. It’s that simple. So my message to Kelly and his buddies in the gun control movement is to get with the program, or get out of town.”

SP Intel Report- December 8, 2015

How’s this for timing? Bringing up the rear in my last SP Intel Report entry:

I too believe it’s only a matter of time before a major terror attack is launched by jihadists against the U.S.

Okay, so the San Bernardino, California, terrorist attack (pretty pathetic how some tried real hard to paint this as merely workplace-related violence) wasn’t exactly “major,” and anyone with at least half-a-brain should have seen this coming. But the Muslim extremists are here, and they will strike again at the “homeland” on the level of what just happened out on the “Left Coast” (all that gun “control” didn’t work out too well for California in this instance) all the way up to another 9/11-type attack with thousands of Americans dead.

U.S. Supreme Court Declines To Hear Appeal Of Lower-Court Ruling Upholding City of Highland Park, Illinois, Assault Weapons Ban

From a press release published on the City of Highland Park website Monday:

On Monday, December 7, 2015, the United States Supreme Court announced that it will not entertain a challenge to the City of Highland Park’s ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, thus allowing the 7th Circuit Court opinion supporting the ordinance to remain standing. This Supreme Court’s determination is a resounding victory for the City of Highland Park and the safety of its residents…

Or so their local government leaders think. For a number of years now I’ve thought Highland Park might be a potential target for home-grown and visiting jihadists in the Chicago area due to its significant Jewish population that, in general, doesn’t seem to celebrate the natural right to self-defense and firearm protections provided by the Founding Fathers like their brethren do over at the JPFO (Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership). One might think world history would cause them to act otherwise. Here’s hoping the Highland Park Police Department is equipped with some major firepower, because if the (aspiring) terrorists weren’t familiar with Highland Park already, they are now, considering the amount of nationwide publicity gun “control” supporters (mainstream media) are giving this inaction by the U.S. Supreme Court. The “North Shore” community might now look even “softer” in the eyes of these bad guys. Good luck with that.

Illinois State Rifle Association Declares December 12-13 To Be ‘Illinois Family Security Weekend’

Speaking of that last SP Intel Report entry, in it I talked about a November 14, 2015, Facebook post from the Illinois State Rifle Association in which they issued an “Urgent Alert” regarding terrorism preparedness. Well, the ISRA just issued another alert today. From their website:

SPECIAL ALERT
THIS WEEKEND IS “ILLINOIS FAMILY SECURITY WEEKEND”
PROTECT YOUR FAMILY – PREPARE FOR THE WORST

The closing months of 2015 provide chilling proof of just how successful Obama has been in engineering the decline of the USA. In less than 8 years, the USA has gone from world power to whimpering “also ran.” There is no better illustration of this sad state of affairs than the happenings of the last several weeks.

In October, cultists bombed a Russian airliner killing more than 200 people. In November, cultists bombed and shot more than 100 people in attacks on Paris’ entertainment district. In response to these attacks, Europe banded together under the leadership of President Putin to deliver a staggering military attack on cultist strongholds.

Earlier this month, cultists attacked a Christmas party in San Bernardino – killing 14 and wounding at least a dozen more. In response, Obama got on TV to tell law-abiding citizens to give up their guns and to lecture Americans about how they have to do a better job of making friends.

Get the picture here?

If you think that Obama is capable, or even willing to faithfully discharge his duty to protect this nation and its people from cultist attacks, you are sorely mistaken. That means that the safety and security of you and your family is totally up to you. Are you prepared for that mission?

Your Illinois State Rifle Association has declared the weekend of December 12-13 as “Illinois Family Security Weekend.” The purpose of this declaration is to emphasize the dire situation our nation is in and the necessity for all good citizens to be prepared for swift and devastating changes to our way of life. The Illinois State Rifle Association is asking all Illinois citizens to make a pledge to themselves and their families to spend some time this weekend preparing for the unthinkable, yet inevitable horrors that could be inflicted on our nation at any moment.

Key things that you and your family need to be working on this weekend…

Check out what the ISRA has to say over on their website here.

The New York Times Pushes National Gun Confiscation

If there was still any doubt about the ongoing push for nationwide gun confiscation in the United States (did anybody ever really believe that “we’re not coming for your guns” horse crap?), one only needs to read the front page of The New York Times last Saturday. From their Editorial Board:

Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

By the way, this was the newspaper’s first front-page editorial since 1920.

Chicago Thanksgiving Holiday Shootings Leave 8 Dead, At Least 20 Others Wounded

The long holiday weekend was a bloody one for Chicago. It was reported on the Fox 32 (Chicago) website Monday morning that 8 people were killed and at least 20 others wounded in shootings across the city. According to the HeyJackass! website this afternoon, the “Windy City” has tallied 2,750 shootings and 464 homicides year-to-date. Yikes.

‘Magnificent Mile’ Retailers Say Protest On Black Friday Resulted In Sales ‘25 Percent To 50 Percent Below Projections’

Kim Janssen reported on the Chicago Tribune website Monday afternoon:

Activists who blocked the entrances to stores on North Michigan Avenue on Black Friday to protest the fatal shooting of a black teenager by a white Chicago cop may have split opinions with their tactics.

But their goal of forcing retailers to suffer economic pain on what’s historically the busiest shopping day of the year was a success, according to unhappy store staff and managers who said Monday that Black Friday sales on the Magnificent Mile were 25 percent to 50 percent below projections

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

As if the city of Chicago needed more financial misery heaped on it these days.

Illinois State Rifle Association Issues ‘Urgent Alert’ On Prepping For Terrorism

While I haven’t been following the activities of the Illinois State Rifle Association for long, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them this worked up about such an issue. From a November 14 Facebook post:

URGENT ALERT –
DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY SECURITY ON THE BACK BURNER
EVENTS IN PARIS ARE JUST A WARM UP EXERCISE
YOU MUST ARM AND TRAIN YOUR FAMILY TO ENSURE SURVIVAL

People around the world were treated today to a brutal spectacle having its roots in political naivety, ignorance of history, and wholly misguided immigration policy. Does that sound familiar? It should, because it aptly describes not only to the French government, but the sitting U.S. administration as well.

If you are of the mind of, “…it can’t happen here” then you are sorely deluded. The apparatus to launch a Paris-style bloodbath is already in place here in the United States. All these determined terrorists are waiting for is the go-head from their higher headquarters.

We may be only hours or even moments away from the news that dozens if not hundreds of Americans – just like you and your family – are laying dead or dying in a heap on the floor of some sporting, shopping or entertainment venue. We may be only hours or even moments away from hearing about how the police are looking for “…a few extremists” responsible from the carnage.

It’s not a question as to whether this is going to happen here, because it will. The real question is whether you are prepared to stand and protect what is yours. Are you prepared and able to defend yourself and your family? When the inevitable moment of truth arrives, are you willing to stand and fight or will you be content to play dead – hoping desperately that it is not your day to die?

The survival of you and your family is not mere fodder for some analysis of the war on terror – it’s a cultural imperative. As an American, you are very fortunate that you have a formula for survival and it’s called the Second Amendment. However, the power of any right is directly proportional to how vigorously it is exercised. Left unattended, the rights you enjoy under our Second Amendment will wither away.

To better the chances of survival for you and your family, the Illinois State Rifle Association urges you to do the following:

1. Make sure every person in your family holds a FOID card and that all eligible family members hold Illinois concealed carry permits.
2. Assemble a family defense arsenal consisting of one or more semiautomatic rifles such as the AR-15; one or more 12-gauge pump action shotguns, and one or more semiautomatic handguns. If you do not have a family defense arsenal, this is a good weekend to begin putting it together.
3. Be sure that you and every member of your family have had sufficient training in the use and field servicing of the weapons in your family defense arsenal.
4. Be sure that you have sufficient quantities of the proper ammunition on hand to defend your family.
5. Resolve this weekend to get yourself and your family into a physical training regimen. Your physical conditioning may be the difference between life and death during a Paris-style attack.
6. Encourage your extended family and friends to develop plans for protecting self and family from the threat of terror our government takes so lightly.

You have to understand that this is not a battle you can hire someone else to fight for you. When the time comes, you may very well find yourself standing nose to nose with a guy intent upon obliterating you, your culture, and everything you hold sacred.

Are you prepared?

Disturbing. Yet nothing to scoff at, as I too believe it’s only a matter of time before a major terror attack is launched by jihadists against the U.S.

Cook County Finance Committee Approves Ammunition Tax

It comes as no surprise that Cook County, Illinois, aims to tax law-abiding firearm owners in the county for the actions of criminals- yet again. Earlier this week I mentioned Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle had proposed a tax on ammunition sales in the county. Today, the Cook County Finance Committee approved the proposal. Hal Dardick reported on the Chicago Tribune website tonight:

The Finance Committee on Friday approved a series of other new taxes and fees. They include… A new tax on bullets- 5 cents per round of “centerfire ammunition” and 1 cent per round of “rimfire ammunition”- to raise $320,000 a year for public safety and health programs.

Todd Vandermyde, Illinois lobbyist for the National Rifle Association, said the county could expect a court challenge on the bullet fee, just as it is battling a lawsuit against a $25-per-gun purchase tax that went into effect two years ago.

“It seems interesting that the county wants to go down this road again, because you’ll incur even more litigation with a new suit to deal with this issue,” Vandermyde said, noting the relatively small sum the bullet tax is expected to bring in…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

See you in court? I’d be curious to find out how much that $25-per-gun purchase tax lawsuit has cost Cook County taxpayers to date.

Illinois

Illinois State Rifle Association Warns Of State Gun Control Legislation

Still on the topic of firearms tonight, gun control is on the march here in the “Land of Lincoln.” And the Illinois State Rifle Association has identified new initiatives that threaten the Second Amendment. From the ISRA Thursday Bulletin’s “Executive Director’s Message” for November 12, 2015:

In Springfield we have a couple of troublesome House Resolutions introduced. The first of these is HR0830 (Flowers, D-31, Chicago). HR 0830 calls for President Obama to hold a National Conference on Gun Violence by the end of 2015, in Chicago. This of course would be a blame the law abiding gun owners conference more than anything else. There are only 49 days left this year so it would have to happen quickly.

The next resolution, (Welch, D-7, Hillside), urges the courts, especially the Supreme Court, to adhere to the clear wording of the Second Amendment, being a right afforded to state sponsored militias, not individuals (this is their wording, not mine). What this clearly points out is that the Second Amendment is under attack. If you are not disturbed by this, you should be…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

You can read the entire Thursday Bulletin via the ISRA’s Twitter page here.

International

My thoughts and prayers go out to France this evening. While appalled, I am not shocked to hear of the Paris terror attack however. For a couple of years now I’ve talked about the November 2008 Mumbai, India, slaughter being emulated by terrorists. Almost a year ago to this day I blogged:

Something tells me our friends in Western Europe might suffer a major terrorist attack before a strike against the United States…

And on January 7, 2015, I wrote:

I still predict major terrorist attacks having the potential of inflicting large numbers of casualties will be directed against America and its allies in the future. The possible culprits being several, but including Muslim extremists like Al-Qaeda and its affiliates…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

Captain Obvious strikes again? Perhaps. But the notion of a large scale terror attack directed against the United States and/or its allies doesn’t appear to have been registering on the radars of lots of people these days. With a laughable economic “recovery” and plenty of distractions in play by the powers-that-be, who could blame them?

After the carnage in France, America and her allies remain in the crosshairs of the terrorists. Stay safe…

Guns & Ammo Publishes ‘Best States For Gun Owners 2015’

Yesterday I happened to come across an article entitled “Best States for Gun Owners 2015” on the Guns & Ammo website. Keith Wood wrote Tuesday:

For the third consecutive year and first time in print, Guns & Ammo presents our assessment of each state’s gun laws in a format that ranks them from worst to first for gun owners…

G&A has conducted a thorough review of each state’s laws and considered initiatives pending in state legislatures. Every effort has been made to create a ranking system that is fair, equitable, accurate and objective. States were ranked numerically in each of five categories: right-to-carry, right to own “black rifles” (i.e., firearms possessing a tactical appearance), presence of the Castle Doctrine, subjects relating to the National Firearms Act (NFA) and a catchall miscellaneous column…

Interesting. Considering the amount of activity in the state recently as it concerns gun rights, I was real curious to see where Illinois ranked on this list. From the piece:

43. Illinois

Illinois has gone from one of the worst states for gun owners to “not so bad as long as you don’t live in Chicago” these last few years. The state’s “shall issue” concealed carry permit system is up and running for both residents and nonresidents, and the sky did not fall. Illinois’ Firearm Owner’s Identification, or “FOID,” requirement remains in effect for all residents wishing to touch a firearm or ammunition except for those possessed by nonresidents in accordance with state law. Suppressors are not permitted in Illinois, though a bill to change that is currently before the legislature. Short-barreled rifles are not allowed. At the point of sale, there is a three-day waiting period before picking up a handgun, and a 24-hour waiting period is applied to all long guns. The state has strong use-of-force laws, and all tactical rifles are legal outside of municipalities such as Chicago and Highland Park…

To expand on that bit about “all tactical rifles are legal outside of municipalities such as Chicago and Highland Park,” Don Babwin reported on The State Journal-Register (Springfield, Illinois) website back on July 20, 2013:

According to the Illinois State Rifle Association, at least 16 municipalities – including Chicago – enacted ordinances banning or regulating assault weapons. Every one of them was in the Chicago metropolitan area. Around 30 other municipalities took up the issue but voted down the bans.

The list of towns that took action includes places such as Evanston, Highland Park, Hazel Crest and Calumet Park…

So that’s Illinois. How about north of the state line where I pursue the bulk of my outdoor activities (when I have the time, that is)? From the article:

25. Wisconsin

Life improved markedly for gun-owning Wisconsin residents when former Gov. Jim Doyle was replaced by Gov. Scott Walker. Wisconsin’s hard-won CCW law gets good marks for strong reciprocity and very limited “gun-free zones.” The state has a Castle Doctrine statute on the books and doesn’t restrict NFA items or tactical-looking firearms. A bill to repeal the state’s 48-hour waiting period on handgun purchases was recently signed by Gov. Walker, yet another step forward for gun owners. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is about as outspokenly pro-gun as it gets, which is a rare thing in a major metro area…

Nearby Indiana, by the way, actually placed 16th in this year’s rankings. Nice job.

Where does your state fall in the 2015 list? Head on over to the Guns & Ammo website here to find out.

Illinois State Rifle Association Blasts Gun ‘Control’ Supporters In Crain’s Opinion Piece

“A group of civil rights activists on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against three Chicago suburbs to force them to take stricter gun-control measures to stem the flow of weapons into the city’s crime-ridden neighborhoods…”

-Reuters, July 7, 2015

I just got finished reading an opinion piece this morning on the Crain’s Chicago Business website that was written by Richard Pearson, executive director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. Pearson and the ISRA threw down the gauntlet at gun “control” supporters in Chicago and elsewhere in the state who keep pushing for more restrictive laws, despite the fact that criminals- as the term suggests- don’t follow such laws when they need to get their hands on a firearm. Instead, law-abiding Illinoisans and their ability to effectively defend themselves against the bad guys are impacted. Pearson suggested gun “control” advocates turn their focus to “crime control” instead.

A sensible recommendation, especially when you consider Chicago was recently ranked dead last in federal prosecution of gun crimes and it’s routinely-reported in the local news these days that yet another criminal found guilty of a firearm-related crime went on to commit more of the same.

Pearson wrote:

Like all people of good conscience, Illinois’ lawful firearm owners abhor the violence taking place in our communities. After all, we and our families live here too. That being said, we are not going to accept the role of scapegoat for failed social policies. We will not accept a brand of politics that prefers to heap rules on people who follow rules rather than holding those who do not follow the rules accountable. We never will agree that gun control is an acceptable substitute for crime control…

It’s a good read, which you can view in its entirety over on the Crain’s website here.

Sounds like a fun time to spend a Saturday as summer kicks offs. For more information about the event, head on over to the ISRA website here where you can obtain the flyer (.pdf document) for the 2015 ISRA Range Open House.

Chicago-Area Democrats Push To Expand ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Throughout Illinois

After a federal court upheld an “assault weapons” ban by the City of Highland Park, gun “control” supporters in Chicago’s far north suburbs are trying to expand the ban on these military-pattern semi-automatic rifles throughout the state of Illinois- under the guise of “local control.” Deb McCarver reported on the Illinois Senate Democrats website Tuesday:

In response to a recent federal court ruling in support of Highland Park’s assault weapons ban, state Senator Julie Morrison introduced a measure to restore the right to ban assault weapons to every city and village in the state.

“This is about local control,” the Deerfield Democrat said. “Highland Park decided to protect its citizens by banning assault weapons. Every other city and village in Illinois should have that same right.”

The highly controversial 2013 law that allowed Illinois residents to carry concealed weapons also prohibited local governments from banning assault weapons…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

According to the “synopsis” of Illinois Senate Bill 2130:

the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Deletes provision that the regulation of the possession or ownership of assault weapons are exclusive powers and functions of this State. Deletes provision that any ordinance or regulation, or portion of that ordinance or regulation, that purports to regulate the possession or ownership of assault weapons in a manner that is inconsistent with the Act, shall be invalid unless the ordinance or regulation is enacted on, before, or within 10 days after the effective date of Public Act 98-63 (July 9, 2013). Deletes provision that any ordinance or regulation described in the stricken provision enacted more than 10 days after the effective date of Public Act 98-63 is invalid. Effective immediately…

This Tuesday I noted something Robert McCoppin reported on the Chicago Tribune website April 28. From his piece:

A federal court Monday upheld Highland Park’s ban on assault weapons — possibly setting the stage for a showdown over the issue before the U.S. Supreme Court…

Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson said he was confident the law could be overturned on appeal to the Supreme Court, but the National Rifle Association would have to decide whether to make a costly appeal.

“The Second Amendment is about the right to keep and bear arms,” Pearson said. “The government doesn’t get to pick the list.”

After Senator Morrison’s action- supported by Highland Park Mayor and Democratic candidate for Congress (10th Congressional District) Nancy Rotering (as evidenced later on in that McCarver piece)- don’t be surprised if an appeal is now launched by pro-gun rights forces- costs be damned.

As for Highland Park, which is making a strong bid for wrestling away the title of “Ground Zero for Gun ‘Control’” from Oak Park, Illinois, these days, I suspect they could be on the hook for some astronomical legal fees after all is said and done.

You can track the status of SB2130 on the Illinois General Assembly website here.
