Chicago-Area Urban Survival/Bug-Out Classes In December

Any Chicago-area readers looking to learn urban survival/bug-out skills in the coming month? Back in the spring I mentioned the C.U.M.A. Survival School in a post about Chicago Reader contributor Connie Vaughn taking such training from the outfit. I blogged:

I’ve come across the C.U.M.A. Survival School website before while researching Chicago-area prepper/survival training, and I’ve made a note to blog about it down the road.

This morning seemed like an appropriate time to talk about the school again as they’re offering survival training in December. From the C.U.M.A. website:

The C.U.M.A. Survival School specializes in no-nonsense training for everyone who is interested in Combatives, Self Defense, Urban Survival or venturing into the great outdoors. It does not matter if you are 45 year old civilian “novice” or a seasoned combat/law enforcement veteran; our goal is to provide quality instruction to anyone who is interested leaning valuable skill sets that can potentially save someone’s life…

The C.U.M.A. Survival School was founded by world re-known martial artist, CQC trainer, Book/DVD author, magazine writer and knife designer “SIJO” Waysun Johnny Tsai…

I e-mailed Waysun Johnny Tsai recently about upcoming survival-related classes they might be offering. From his reply last Thursday:

The Next one day 7 hour C.U.M.A. Urban Survival / BUG OUT classes are on Saturday, Dec 13th, 2014 and Sunday, Dec 20th, 2014.

The hours are 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on either day.

Subject matter will include:

HOME PREPARATION AND BUGGING IN / SURVIVAL GEAR REVIEW (2 Hour Lecture/Near Schaumburg, ILLINOIS).

THE BUG OUT : Basic Winter Wilderness Survival at the BUSSE WOODS (Near Schaumburg, ILLINOIS / 3 Hours)

C.U.M.A. COMBATIVES: SURVIVING THE FIGHT (2 hours/ NEAR Schaumburg, ILLINOIS)

The cost for one day training is $150 per person …

The class sounds real promising. Expert, hands-on urban survival training is hard to come by around these parts for some strange reason (or maybe not, as faith in the “Nanny State” among local residents remains foolishly strong). Busse Woods is a terrific venue (I used to fish there all the time when I was a kid). And I like that part of the instruction is dedicated to wilderness survival in the winter, which can get incredibly-brutal here in the Midwest.

This “keyboard commando” is certainly interested in enrolling some day.

Interested in the Urban Survival/Bug Out course or C.U.M.A. Survival School in general? You can visit the school’s website here for more information.

Michael Bloomberg And Heavenly Hubris

The New York Times just published an article about former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg. In it, the gun “control” and so-called “Nanny State” proponent reportedly said:

I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.

I once made the mistake of working for a guy who was supposedly a born-again Christian.

To date, he holds the distinction of being the biggest prick I’ve ever met- pardon my French.

And I’ve run into quite a few jerks during my four decades on this planet.

Getting back to Mr. Bloomberg though. I believe there is a God. And I also believe he doesn’t take to kindly to human beings who let hubris (excessive self-confidence) invade their hearts, minds, and particularly their souls.

“Blessed are the meek…”

I respect Michael Bloomberg for his accomplishments in business and public service (to a certain degree). I just hope he keeps an open mind on what truly merits being with God once we pass on, and practices it in his remaining years on this Earth.

I really do wish him the best of luck concerning this particular matter.

Now back to our regular programming…

Back To Blogging

It’s back to work over here at Survival And Prosperity this dreary Wednesday morning in the Chicagoland area. I had planned on publishing new material Monday, but decided to extend my “vacation” out a little bit longer. I apologize if you were checking for new posts earlier this week.

During my time away from the blog, I was able to attend to a number of tasks that needed my immediate attention. But it wasn’t “all work and no play.” I got the chance to spend a couple of days at my family’s place in southeast Wisconsin near the end of the break. The weather was terrific, the locally-brewed beer plentiful, and the Northern Pike and Largemouth Bass were biting. My cousin and I managed to haul in some really nice-sized fish. Which is why I extended my stay longer than originally planned.

Two things come to mind now when thinking about that long weekend in Wisconsin:

First, I noticed the gun section at the local hardware store had a lot more ammunition on the shelves from the last time I was there. Another sign the ammo shortage is easing up?

Second, it was nice to “Escape to Wisconsin” and breathe in some “freedom.” In my opinion, Wisconsin is heading in the right direction. Illinois… not so much. As each day goes by, the “Land of Lincoln” continues to be transformed into a Big Government Nanny State, highlighted by more/higher taxes, more/higher fees, and increasing controls forced upon the populace. Sadly enough, many of my neighbors seem to be okay with this. Especially here in the Chicago area.

Coupled with the huge financial woes facing the City of Chicago, Cook County, and State of Illinois- an ugly ending looks to be in store for us. At the very least, Illinoisans will be busting their wallets out en masse to deal with the debt debacle.

And while our nice new house in the Chicago suburbs that I worked on quite a bit the last two weeks is fine and all, I continue to warn my girlfriend that our future permanent residence looks to be outside of the state.

It’s a real shame it might have to come to that.

Back to our regularly-scheduled blogging. And wondering if incompetency trumps political theater in causing a national debt default in the coming hours.

Bill O’Reilly: ‘The Most Important Story In America Today Is Our Declining Economic Power’

I rarely tune in to The O’Reilly Factor on the FOX News Channel (good material, but too much talking/shouting over one another). However, what host Bill O’Reilly said in his “Talking Points” segment on last night’s show struck a chord. O’Reilly warned:

There is no way that America will remain the most powerful nation in the world if we continue to promote weakness. The Nanny State mentality embraced by the Democratic Party is a direct and dire threat.

And the reason the Democrats have been able to do so much damage to the economy, is because the Republican Party didn’t solve key problems when it was in power.

Illegal immigration, one of the big examples of that. Dangerous speculative bank investments, another. The GOP failed to deal with those situations.

So the country elected Barack Obama. And his liberal philosophy has taken deep root.

The result, as I told the CBS crew? Economic chaos. And a change in the most important mindset this country once had- self reliance.

Cambridge, Massachusetts, Considers Complete Ban On Soda And Sugary Drinks In Restaurants

Not only is the Nanny State camel poking its nose under multiple tents these days, but it’s trying to go even further than before.

From Todd Starnes on the FOX News website yesterday:

The hometown of Harvard University has declared a war on carbonation.

The mayor of Cambridge, Mass. introduced a policy resolution that would ban soft drinks and sugar-sweetened beverages in restaurants…

“Whereas New York City has a plan to limit the serving size of soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages sold in restaurants; now therefore bit it ordered that the City Manager be and hereby is requested to refer the matter of a ban on soda and sugar sweetened beverages in restaurants to the Cambridge Public Health Department for a recommendation,” the resolution read.

(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)

A complete ban on soda and sugary drinks. Wow.

Mayor Bloomberg and New York City- how do you like them apples?

New York City May Ban More Jumbo-Sized Treats, Including Popcorn, Milkshakes, And Milk-Coffee Beverages

Chicago, Cook County, Illinois may be ground zero for gun “control.”

But New York City appears to be staking its claim as capital of The Nanny State.

From the FOX News website Wednesday night:

Watch out, moviegoers — Nanny York City is taking aim at yet another of life’s gluttonous pleasures.

On the heels of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s call for a ban on jumbo-sized sodas and other sugary drinks, city officials are now considering restrictions on treats ranging from popcorn to milkshakes.

At a meeting Tuesday, members of the New York City Board of Health expressed support for Bloomberg’s proposal. They then started brainstorming other ways to cut the fat, according to MyFoxNY.com.

Member Bruce Vladeck proposed limiting movie-theater popcorn containers.

“The popcorn isn’t a whole lot better than the soda,” he said.

Another member suggested limits for milkshakes and “milk-coffee beverages.”

The board, whose members were appointed by Bloomberg, will vote on the mayor’s drink proposal — but agreed to a six-week, public-comment period before taking a vote, according to MyFoxNY.com.

(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)

From what I understand, these same board members- excluding the chairman- can only be removed by the mayor, so unless Mayor Bloomberg anticipates some serious political fallout from the proposed expanded ban, this could be a done deal.

Jumbo-sized sodas, sugary drinks, popcorn, milkshakes, and milk-coffee beverages.

What’s next?

Who knows? But this ban could signal the nation is one step closer to 2+2=5, if you know what I mean.

Make Mine Freedom

When anybody preaches disunity, tries to pit one of us against the other, through class warfare, race hatred, or religious intolerance, you know that person seeks to rob us of our freedom, and destroy our very lives.
