Some Clinton Supporters Protest, Riot After Election

In yesterday’s “Signs Of The Time” post, I noted that the Oath Keepers had recently conducted a webinar addressing how to prepare for the possibility of post-election civil strife and violence.

Apparently, a limited amount of social unrest kicked off on America’s “Left Coast” and elsewhere in the country early this morning after the conclusion of the U.S. presidential election.

Gemma Mullin reported on The Mirror (UK) website today:

Crowds of angry protesters have taken to streets across the United States chanting “Not Our President” while setting fires and smashing windows.

Hundreds of people descended on California minutes after it was announced that Donald Trump had won the election.

Hillary Clinton supporters were filmed setting fire to the US flag while marching through the streets of Portland, Oregon, shouting “F*** Donald Trump”.

Footage also emerged of activists setting tyres and rubbish bins on fire, blocking main roads and lighting flares.

People also burned an effigy of the President-elect, who will be officially sworn into office in January.

Meanwhile, a young student has reportedly been hit by an SUV and severely injured during a march in Berkeley, with one witness claiming the crash was intentional, according to NBC Bay Area…

Other protests have broken out in the San Diego, San Fransisco and San Jose areas, according to reports… A demonstration also unfolded at the University of California, Davis…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

Thomas Fuller added over on The New York Times website this afternoon:

From Pennsylvania to California, Oregon and Washington State, hundreds of people hit the streets, according to reports by local news media and The Associated Press…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

After watching TV and surfing the Internet/social media sites earlier today, it’s clear to me that a number of Hillary Clinton supporters (and “Never Trumpers”) are absolutely livid about Donald Trump’s Oval Office victory.

As such, additional- and more intense- acts of civil disobedience/unrest are certainly possible tonight and in the coming days.

Gabe Suarez Shares Latest Insights On Terrorism, Mass Shootings

In the previous post I referenced one published back on April 28, 2011, about the next Mumbai-style attack. I blogged:

Consider what Gabe Suarez, a decorated veteran of Southern California law enforcement and president of the personal safety training outfit Suarez International, wrote in his blog Warrior Talk News on May 6, 2010:

Put yourself in the enemy’s shoes… err, sandals… which option would YOU pick? Which offers the easiest implementation, least chance for detection, greatest chance for success – bombs or bullets?

The mass shooting and not the improvised and unsuccessful bomb is the “easy button”, and that fact cannot be ignored by us as it will not be overlooked by the enemy.

So what do we do?

1). We must identify who the enemy is. Please go back and peruse the list of events above, both failed and successful. What is the common thread connecting the attackers?

2). Carry your gun everywhere… a REAL fighting gun… not some sissy “suitable for CCW” 5 shot “self defense gun”. The times are not such that concern over a mugger is the issue anymore. Carry extra ammo with you. It is not difficult at all to carry a full sized pistol with a couple of extra magazines. I have done so since 1983.

These are not the times to be seeking political correctness over public safety. It is not the time to fear false labels created and assigned by the mass media. The Israelis learned that lesson long ago. After all is said and done, it is better to be a live “intolerant racist” (as the MSM would call us) than a dead “co-existing”, tolerant “paragon of political correctness”. I suspect that had Shahzad’s bomb been successful, lots of tolerant, “co-exist” types would have died right alongside us “intolerant racists”. The times call for careful profiling and suspicious curiosity as well as daily preparation.

Dress everyday as if you had a business meeting in Mumbai on 26 November 2008 with a bunch of Jews, Christians, and atheist Americans at a cafe right across the street from the Jihad School Of Terrorism.

Be ready or be a victim.

“Be ready or be a victim.” Great words to live by.

Almost six years on, Gabe Suarez continues to head up the multinational corporation Suarez International. I still check-in on Suarez on a regular basis via Facebook and his Suarez International Blog, “a ‘warrior lifestyle’ publication dedicated to the modern excellence-seeking martial enthusiast.” I blogged about his January 8 “Every Man Is A Counter Terrorist” Facebook post, in which he discussed the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack in Paris, France, and called upon readers to become counter-terrorists.

No holds barred. Thought-provoking. Classic Suarez.

I highlighted two other terrorism/mass shooting-related posts of his for the remainder of last year. One was a follow-up to his January 8 Facebook entry. The second focused on the October 1 mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

“GROUND ZERO WITH THE ACTIVE SHOOTER”
YouTube Video

Today, I want to share with Survival And Prosperity readers Gabe Suarez’s latest material on terrorism/mass shootings. From his Suarez International Blog in January:

Terrorism In America- Reality Check” (January 6):

Are there sleeper cells in the USA planning…actively…to bring terror to every American? Yes, of course. Did anyone doubt this? I would have to sit and ponder for a time just how many events there have been. I recall the suicide bomber outside the OSU football game in 2005. And of course the prominent ones…Fort Hood…Boston Marathon…and now, San Bernardino. The common and undeniable thread is of course – the terrorists are all acting in the name of their political-religious ideology…

We Live In A Time Of War” (January 8):

From a good friend who has been there done that… on the dark side

***

Being prepared in a dangerous world. PLEASE take time to read & digest. Please share with others. As we have become complacent in our lives, others want to and will do their best to disrupt that complacency. This is extremely long, but, quite thorough. And, in the big picture, good advice…

Living In The ‘Before’” (January 11):

I had a long discourse today with a friend from high school. She was concerned about all the terrorism today and wanted advice. She had been living in the “before”.

What is the before?

I found Gabe Suarez’s insights in these three blog posts valuable. Perhaps readers will too.

Gabe Suarez: ‘What We Really Need Is A Good Guy That Is Also A Killer’

Back on January 9, I blogged about Gabe Suarez, head of The Suarez Group and a decorated veteran of Southern California law enforcement, concerning a Facebook post of his in which he declared “Every Man Is A Counter Terrorist” in response to the Charlie Hebdo shootings in France.

On Friday, he updated that “call to arms” against the “bad guys” in the wake of the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

While that update was just as thought-provoking as the original, it’s what Suarez wrote Sunday on his company’s Facebook page (and which I received via e-mail this morning) that really stands out for me. From that post:

IGNORE THE SIGN

Some points on Oregon: Its not a video of a kitten so I hope its actually read by someone.

1). I could simply cut and paste every article I have written after these and simply change the dates and locations and they would all be spot on.

a). Its either a jihadist muslim extremist, a common crazy guy, or a combination of both.

b). It is at a place where everyone has been voluntarily disarmed.

c). The police arrive after the bodies pile up and kill him, and then say it was a suicide.

d). The monkeys in charge call for more gun restrictions. Over and over and over. Routine? Yup.

2). The woods are lovely dark and deep. I will leave it at that…look it up. Very excellent timing after Putin gave Obama a penile prostate check over Syria.

3). If we did not embrace the cultures that hate us (reference the 100,000 Syrians your POTUS is bringing into the USA), or allow crazy people to roam free…I bet there would be fewer of these.

4). Given the inability of the authorities to keep you safe in such events, obeying “the sign” is a form of insanity. Not only immoral for them to suggest you do so, but also foolish on your part knowing what the eventual outcome of such an event would be.

5). We have plenty of noble victim-heroes that sacrifice themselves, unarmed to save others.

Yes…I got it…America yearns for heroes in these estrogenized times like an addict yearns for a fix. But we have plenty of the self sacrifial types. What we really need is a good guy that is also a killer. A good guy that is also a killer that will ignore the sign, and go after the sound of the shots with a smile on his face and a pistol in his hand and shoot the bad guy right in the face…or the back of the head if positioning favors that.

Today, every man or woman is a counter terrorist.

IGNORE THE SIGN

Suarez once again leaves his audience with a good deal of material to really think about, particularly that bit where he said, “The police arrive after the bodies pile up and kill him, and then say it was a suicide.”

Gun ‘Control’ Supporters Borrow A Page From Rahm Emanuel’s Playbook

From the Chicago Sun-Times Editorial Board Friday night on the paper’s website:

A young man armed to the teeth kills ten people at a community college in Oregon, and what do the politicians in Washington do?

They put on their saddest faces and go on TV. They shake their heads. They bemoan and decry.

As if that counts for a thing.

Spare us.

Here’s what they should do, right now, every one of them: Pass a law — two good bills are ready to go

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

“Two good bills are ready to go…”

Of course they are. I wouldn’t have expected anything less from the gun “control” crowd these days.

President Obama Gets Owned By Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly Over Politicizing Oregon Mass Shooting

I didn’t hear about the mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon until arriving home from Wisconsin late Thursday night. Incredible tragedy- my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. As expected, the incident is being exploited to no end by gun “control” supporters. Yet, one of the more well-known mouthpieces of the anti-Bill of Rights crowd got owned on national television the other night by Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly. From The O’Reilly Factor October 1:

I don’t have a script here. I’m just talking to President Obama right now. Okay. It’s just me, to him. You say that the states that have the most gun laws have the least gun violence. Your home state of Illinois has perhaps the most stringent gun laws in the country. Chicago is the largest city in Illinois. Since 2012, there have been 6,000 shootings- 6,000 shootings- in the city of Chicago. There have been 1,679 murders in the city of Chicago, many of them exactly where you worked as a community organizer. So you know the problem that Chicago has. And you also know, Mr. President, that Chicago has extremely stringent gun laws. In fact, Chicago was confiscating guns against the Second Amendment until the courts stopped that. So, most of the people in Chicago say, “If we have all of these stringent gun control laws in our city and our state, why do we have a holocaust? Why?” The reason is that criminals who need guns to do their business are going to get the guns, because there aren’t stringent penalties if you violate gun laws in Chicago or Illinois. The laws are on the books- they’re not enforced. And you, Mr. President, have not made an issue of it at all. In fact, you don’t even mention the carnage in Chicago. You do mention the individual things like what happened in Oregon. But Chicago is like, doesn’t exist, even though this is your turf, your hometown, you’re the guy who was there. So I don’t understand any of that. I don’t get any of it…

On TV: The Next Mega Tsunami

Seeing that I don’t have an “In Print” post for readers this week (will be discussing The Ultimate Situational Survival Guide: Self-Reliance Strategies for a Dangerous World by Robert Richardson of OffGridSurvival.com-fame next week though), I want to talk about a National Geographic production I recently watched.

Enter The Next Mega Tsunami.

From the TV show’s “About” page on the National Geographic Channel (UK) website:

Ten years after one of the most deadly tsunamis ever known, scientists are making a shocking discovery.

Experts used to believe that the biggest killer waves were only generated in a handful of regions, but mounting evidence now suggests that more of the world’s coasts, from the Mediterranean to Australia, could be in grave danger.

But where will the next Big One strike?

Obviously, there was a lot of talk about the December 26, 2004, Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami and the March 11, 2011, Tōhoku, Japan, earthquake and tsunami in the production. But it was the discussion about the Cascadia Subduction Zone “megathrust” fault (running the coast from Vancouver Island North in British Columbia, Canada, down to Cape Mendocino, California) that grabbed my attention. The presence of this fault means a real threat exists for an earthquake and mega tsunami to strike the coast from Canada to California at any time. Chris Goldfinger, professor of geology and geophysics at Oregon State University, warned:

We have a repeat time of about 240 years. So where that puts us statistically is we’re now 314 years past the last earthquake– an average repeat time of 240- so we’re actually past the average time… There’s a high chance that in our lifetimes, this may happen. That applies to all of Cascadia, but much more so to the south. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll go through a long interval and we’ll go hundreds of years. But it could just as well happen tomorrow.

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

All you readers living on the West Coast- take heed.

The Next Mega Tsunami should be coming back around on the National Geographic Channel soon. It’s also on SPTV here.

‘People Sure Seem To Love To Leave Illinois’

The Illinois Diaspora continues…

Gregory Karp reported on the Chicago Tribune website Friday afternoon:

Illinois was the No. 3 state in America for outbound moves in 2014, United Van Lines said Friday.

Earlier this week, Allied Van Lines said Illinois was No. 1 for outbound versus inbound moves in 2014, according to its moving data for the year. And Atlas Van Lines said Friday its data also show more people leaving the state than coming, with Illinois ranking second among states with the highest proportion of outbound moves.

Whatever, people sure seem to love to leave Illinois…

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

So where are all those former Illinoisans heading? Oregon, North Carolina, and South Carolina according to Karp.

Oregon? Must be the dream of the 90s being alive in Portland.

Regular Survival And Prosperity readers shouldn’t be surprised to hear about any of this. I blogged back on May 13 of last year:

“Diaspora- the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland.”
-Merriam-Webster Online

On April 28, I blogged about a recent Gallup poll which revealed 1 in 4 Illinois residents (25 percent) say the state is the worst place to live.

On May 1, I talked about the same poll and the finding that 50 percent of Illinois respondents said they would leave the state if given the opportunity.

I had previously discussed how Illinoisans were departing the state in significant numbers.

And this morning, I read a commentary piece on the Chicago Tribune website that provided more evidence of a “diaspora” taking place from the “Land of Lincoln.” Diana Sroka Ricker of the Chicago-based non-partisan research organization Illinois Policy Institute wrote:

A startling pair of Gallup polls recently suggested that Illinoisans are an unhappy lot. Half of us would move elsewhere if we could. One in 4 says Illinois is the worst possible place to live in the entire U.S.

Naysayers claim it’s all talk. It isn’t.

Not long after the Gallup polls came out, the Internal Revenue Service released fresh numbers showing which states people are moving to and which states people are fleeing.

Spoiler: Illinois didn’t earn any positive marks in this report, either.

According to the IRS, Illinoisans don’t just want to move; they are moving. And they’ve been moving for a long time.

From 1995 to 2010, Illinois lost more than 850,000 people to other states. That’s after you offset the number of people who actually moved in.

The bleeding is bad; on net, 1 person leaves Illinois every 10 minutes.

(Editor’s note: Bold added for emphasis)

I’m skeptical that a Republican governor now at the helm will be able to reverse the outflow- or the state’s fortunes- anytime soon. First, the Democrats who have mainly presided over the fiscal mess are pretty much still in power- sans Pat Quinn. Second, I’m awaiting the Rauner administration to announce down the road that “drastic times call for drastic measures” (or something like that) to bring the state’s economy back. I’m guessing those “measures” might not be too appealing to prospective Illinois residents, let alone those already here.

As for me? Permanent residency in Wisconsin is still a possibility, with the move depending quite a bit on how the “Land of Lincoln” fares in the next few years. If it all goes to crap, then there’s a good chance I’ll be seeking refuge behind the “Cheddar Curtain.”

Illinois Number 2 Outbound State Again In United Van Lines Annual Migration Study

I just got finished reading a press release for United Van Lines’ 37th Annual Migration Study, which tracks the states the company’s customers move to and from during the course of the year.

I saw that Illinois is the number two outbound state for a second year in a row, second only to New Jersey. From that January 2 press release:

Moving Out
The top outbound states for 2013 were:

1. New Jersey
2. Illinois
3. New York
4. West Virginia
5. Connecticut
6. Utah
7. Kentucky
8. Massachusetts
9. New Mexico

(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)

United Van Lines added:

New Jersey (64 percent) continued to top the high outbound list claiming the top spot for three out of the past four years. Illinois (61 percent) held steady at the number two spot after falling from the top spot in 2011.

The Northeast is the most prominent region on the high-outbound traffic list. In addition to New Jersey, New York (61 percent), Connecticut (59 percent) and Massachusetts (56 percent) are also included…

(Editor’s note: Italics added for emphasis)

Why am I not surprised to hear about all the people moving out of Illinois and the Northeast these days in this migration study?

As for the top inbound states? Oregon, followed by South and North Carolina, D.C., South Dakota, Nevada, Texas, and Colorado.

Oregon. Like Portland, where all the young people go to retire?

On TV: All-New Season Of Doomsday Preppers Starts Tonight

The National Geographic Channel has been pretty busy with their survival-themed programming this week. First, they aired the two-hour movie event American Blackout on Sunday. And tonight, an all-new season of Doomsday Preppers begins at 9 PM ET.

(Editor’s note: In August, four “summer episodes” of Doomsday Preppers aired. I erroneously labeled these season 3 of TV series. The third season of Nat Geo Channel’s hit TV series actually kicks off tonight. As such, I’ll be going back and making the necessary corrections on this blog.)

Season 3 debuts with the episode entitled “Take Our Country Back.” From the National Geographic Channel website:

Deep in Oregon’s backcountry sits an 80-acre off-the-grid estate that prepper Curt and his family have designed as a fortress in the event of an economic collapse. Isolation is one of their greatest strengths, but the protective measures are endless: a 3,000-square-foot greenhouse, a lake with 1 million gallons of water, infrared cameras and a high-tech software system not to mention the children are trained in marksmanship.

In addition to “Curt,” there’s Rodney Dial in Ketchikan, Alaska, who along with his wife Lisa and daughter Megan are prepping for major earthquakes in the Alaska area and the tsunamis they could potentially unleash.

“Armored for Armaggedon”
YouTube Video

I was lucky enough to get an advance screening DVD of two upcoming Doomsday Preppers season 3 episodes from the National Geographic Channel- including tonight’s show. After watching them the other week, I thought the Nat Geo Channel staff were correct in selecting this episode as the season premiere. Keep an eye out for the following on “Take Our Country Back” tonight:

-Rodney’s ingenious way of caching some of his of preps
-The Dial family’s bug-out vehicle, nicknamed the “War Machine”
-Curt’s 80-acre bug out location that he moved his family to (wife Randy (spelling?), kids Crae and Sam) last year. What a nice piece of survival property.
-An incident just beyond Curt’s BOL which looked pretty serious and threw him and the production crew off somewhat

Preppers Still Active, And In The News

I happened to stumble on an interesting TV news segment this afternoon on preppers in Oregon. Wesleigh Ogle for CBS affiliate KCBY-TV in North Bend, Oregon, had this to report on December 27:

KCBY-TV Video

I’m really glad that Avery found his “prepper’s paradise.” It looks beautiful- and full of resources- out there in the Northwest.

On Christmas Day, I also came across an article about active military preppers on the UPI website. From the Deep South:

We evidently dodged the Mayan end-of-the-world bullet, but so-called preppers in the United States say they’ll stay prepared nonetheless.

Navy Times reported last week people such as Gunnery Sgt. David Williams of Gulfport, Miss., who are part of the preppers movement — people who say they intend to be prepared for whatever calamities befall us — don’t care if you think they’re crazy. They just take comfort in their stockpiles of food, water, weapons and other vital supplies.

“A lot of the guys in my unit think I’m crazy. I’ll push the zombie apocalypse and the whole 2012 end-of-the-world business. I don’t really believe any of that crap, but it makes it fun,” Williams, a member of a Navy Seabee construction unit who has served in Afghanistan, told the newspaper. “When you’re planning for the zombie apocalypse, you’re still planning.

“Survival really is a community effort. If you’re just one dude or one family living in a bunker, what are you living for? What’s the point? What are [you] trying to stick around for? You might as well go out with everybody else because there isn’t going to be anything when you climb out of your hole.”

Williams — who has served as an instructor at the Marine Corps’ Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, Calif., and has been a survival, evasion, resistance and escape instructor — has written the Survivology 101 blog for the past three years.

“If we all die together, we all die together,” Williams said. “But if we make it through, we become a strong community and we rebuild. It may not be the diehard survival mentality, but there has to be something to live for, too. You have to have something more than yourself; otherwise, you’re a sociopath and probably don’t need to be living anyway.”

Like with a lot of things in life, preppers seem to come in all shapes and sizes.
