Signs Of The Time, Part 49

I’m a huge movie buff. And one hilarious scene I’ll never forget is from the 2002 film Signs, where Mel Gibson’s family put on tin foil hats in an attempt to prevent aliens from reading their minds.

This being 2012 and all, a number of those many would consider to be part of the “tin-foil hat crowd” aren’t being particularly shy when it comes to sharing their beliefs. And one well-known firearm/personal safety expert seems to have had his fill of them. Gabe Suarez, a decorated veteran of Southern California law enforcement and president of the personal safety training outfit Suarez International, published a post yesterday on his Warrior Talk News blog (which I follow on a regular basis) where he pulled no punches in explaining why these individuals were purged from his Warrior Talk Forums, a tactical forum with “discussion of weapons of all types, combatives, tactics and current events.” Suarez wrote:

So this last week our moderators at Warrior Talk banned a gaggle of “tin foilers”.

For the sake of those who have not heard these terms because they have been busy working for a living and actually doing something important, here they are –

Tin foilers is a derisive term derived from the “tin foil hat” – a piece of headgear made from one or more sheets of aluminium foil or similar material said to shield the brain from government mind control and/or mind reading. The concept of wearing a tin foil hat for protection from such threats has become a popular term of derision for paranoids with persecutory delusions, and is associated with conspiracy theorists.

Tin foiler is also for those who fancy themselves as modern day Benjamin Martins (Mel Gibson’s character in Patriot) fighting the evil government. These guys spend their days reading about all the evils of the government, and hang out with other conspiracy types gossiping about uselessness. When they dream, they do not dream about bikini women on tropical beaches, they dream about last stands against those pesky “jack booted thugs” with their trusty SKS in their hands, yelling out “F-R-E-E-D-O-M” just before the geek at Foggy Bottom blasts them with a drone attack…

Too funny. Warrior Talk Forums is Gabe’s baby- and what he says, goes. End of story.

However, there’s nothing to stop these so-called “tin foilers” from creating their own forum.

You can read the entire post on Warrior Talk News here. And Gabe’s forum (also recommended) can be found here.
